DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER(DIC)The DIC informs you of the status ofmany of your vehicle’s systems andis used to display driverpersonalization features andwarning/status messages. Thedisplay is located at the bottom ofthe instrument panel cluster. The DICcontrols are located on theinstrument panelto the right of thesteering wheel. Pressing the top orbottom of theupper buttonallows you toscroll through theavailable featuresthat will appear inthe DIC display.

These include the odometer, tripinformation, tire pressure, oil life andlanguage selection. Warnings and MessagesIf a problem is sensed in one of yourvehicle’s systems, a warning ormessage will appear in the DICdisplay. Possible warnings ormessages include: ABS ACTIVE,CHECK TIRE PRESSURE, LOW BRAKEFLUID, and SERVICE FUEL SYSTEM(see your Owner Manual for acomplete list of possible warningsand messages). After a warning or message appears,press the RESET button to clear thedisplay screen for further use.Remember, pressing RESET onlymakes the message disappear; itdoes not resolve the problem.

Personalization FeaturesYour XLR offers personalizationcapabilities that allow you to programcertain features to a preferred settingfor up to two drivers. Personalizationfeatures will be recalled when thevehicle senses the Keyless Accesstransmitter as the door is opened orwhen the appropriate memorybutton on the driver seat is pressed.

Note: Your vehicle’s warnings andmessages provide critical information thatcan prevent damage to your vehicle.Review your Owner Manual to becomefamiliar with the information displayed andthe action required.

Your XLR features Keyless Access.You can keep the Keyless Accesstransmitter in a pocket or purse andoperate the doors, ignition and trunk.The transmitter communicates withthe XLR’s computer system via radioantennas.

OPENING THE DOORSTo open XLR’s doors, simply touchthe pad located at the rear edge ofeach door. Once the pad is pressed,the doors unlock and open if thetransmitter is within three feet of thedoor.

OPERATING THE IGNITIONTo start the engine, depress thebrake pedal and press the top of thestart button located on theinstrument panel to the right of thesteering wheel. The engine will startif the transmitter is in the car. To turnthe engine off, press the bottom ofthe same button.When the ignitionis off, a red LED willilluminate. Pressingthe bottom of thebutton again willturn on theaccessory mode —indicated by theillumination of an amber LED.Press again toreturn to off.

LEAVING THE VEHICLEOpen the door by pressing thebutton at the front of the armrest.

When exiting the vehicle, take theKeyless Access transmitter with you.You can lock your XLR using one ofthree methods:1 — Lock the doors with the powerdoor lock switch located on the doorpanel, step out, and close the door.

2 — Press the lock button on thetransmitter after you step out of thevehicle.

3 — Program your vehicle for PassiveLocking, covered previously underPersonalization Features.

VALET LOCKOUTA valet lockout switch is locatedinside the glove box. Press theswitch to ON to disable the use of the trunk and the convertible top.The Keyless Access transmittercannot open the trunk if the valetlockout switch is in the ON position.Press the switch to OFF to enable useof the trunk and convertible top.

Note: The Keyless Access System also hasa lockout protection feature. See FobReminder under Personalization Features,covered previously in this guide.

OPENING THE TRUNKYour XLR provides three convenientways of opening the trunk.1. Touch the pad located above the

license plate (the Keyless Accesstransmitter must be within threefeet of the touchpad).

2. Press the trunkrelease buttonlocated to the leftof the steeringwheel, or

3. Press the trunkrelease button onthe transmitter.

CLOSING THE TRUNKThe trunk lid can be closed only oneway. Press the button on theunderside of the trunk lid. The lid willclose and latch automatically.

OPENING THE DRIVER’S DOORDURING LOSS OF ELECTRICALPOWERIf your vehicle has lost battery power,you can open the driver’s doormanually.If Outside the Vehicle:1. Remove the cover located in the

left side of your rear bumper.2. Insert your master key into the

lock cylinder and turn to open thetrunk.

3. Manually lift the trunk lid.4. Open the access panel located on

the driver’s side of the trunk andpull the door release handle.

The driver’s door can now beopened.

If Inside the Vehicle:Pull thedoor releasehandlelocated onthe floornext to theseat.

LOWERING THE TOP1. Before lowering the hardtop, the

trunk partition must be in place.

2. Make sure the transmission is inPark, the vehicle is running or theignition is in ACCESSORY mode,and the valet lockout switch is off.

3. Push and hold the bottom of theRetractable Hardtop button untilthe top is completely lowered andthe trunk lid closes and latches. Achime signals that the operation iscomplete.

RAISING THE TOP1. Press and hold the top part of the

button until the top is fully raised. 2. Press the button again within five

seconds to automatically raise thewindows.

Retractable Hardtop Operation

Note: To prevent damage to the topmechanism, the top will not operate whilethe vehicle is in Drive. If certain conditionsexist, the Driver Information Center maydisplay messages regarding the retractabletop. Refer to your Owner Manual forinstructions on raising the top manually incase of a vehicle power loss.

MOBIL 1 MOTOR OILYour XLR comes factory-filled withMobil 1 with Super Syn motor oil.XLR’s computer system monitors thelife of the oil to inform you when itneeds to be changed. To view theremaining oil life, press the INFObutton repeatedly until OIL LIFEappears in the DIC display. The oil life monitor is programmed to correspond to the attributes ofMobil 1 with Super Syn. If you use

any motor oil, other than Mobil 1 orequivalent synthetic oil, the oil lifemonitoring system will not beaccurate.Whenever your oil is changed, resetthe oil life monitor so it can calculatewhen the next oil change is required.

PREMIUM FUELYour vehicle’s engine was designedto use premium unleaded gasoline.See your Owner Manual forinformation on fuel use for yourparticular vehicle.

RUN-FLAT TIRESThe XLR is equipped with “Run-Flat”tires that eliminate the need for aspare. The tire design enables safefunction during and after loss ofpressure for up to 125 miles ofcontinuous driving at 55 mph. Theshorter the distance you drive withloss of pressure, the better thechance the tire can be repaired. As soon as possible, contactRoadside Service for the nearestauthorized GM or run-flat servicingfacility and have the tire inspected.Refer to the tire warranty informationfor details about the road hazardreplacement plan, which provides forthe replacement of tires renderedunserviceable by a road hazard injuryunder certain conditions.

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORThe Tire Pressure Monitor alerts youwhen a significant reduction inpressure occurs in one or more ofyour vehicle’s tires by illuminatingthe low tire pressure warning light ( ) on the instrument panel. Thelow tire pressure warning light willremain on until you correct the tirepressure.You may also have a CHECK TIREPRESSURE message appear on theDIC. Correcting the Tire PressureWhen the low tire pressure warninglight illuminates, you must fill the tireto the proper tire inflation pressure.The Tire and Loading Informationlabel shows the correct inflationpressure for the tires when they’recold. “Cold” means your vehicle hasbeen sitting for at least three hours ordriven no more than one mile.You can temporarily remove the DICmessage by acknowledging it withyour DIC controls. However, at thenext vehicle start-up, the DIC

message will reappear if the tirepressure has not been corrected.You may notice during coolerconditions that the low tire pressurewarning light will appear when thevehicle is first started and then turnoff as you start to drive the vehicle.This could be an early indicator thatyour tire pressures are getting lowand need to be inflated to the properpressure.

See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

Note: The Tire Pressure Monitor can alertyou about low tire pressure, but it doesn’treplace normal monthly tire maintenance.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL(if equipped)Your XLR may be equipped withAdaptive Cruise Control (ACC). If thelane ahead is clear, the system willmaintain the set speed the same asconventional cruise control. When avehicle is detected in the same lanein front of your car, the system willadjust your speed to maintain aconstant following distance.If a vehicle in your path is moving ata significantly slower speed, thesystem provides visible and audiblealerts.

Setting Adaptive Cruise ControlACC is set by using the multifunctionlever located on the steering column.To activate ACC:1. Move the cruise control switch

to the On ( I ) position (shownbelow).

2. Achieve the speed you desire.3. Press the button at the end of the

lever.4. Remove your foot from the

accelerator.

Once ACC is engaged and the cruisespeed is set, the ACC symbol ( )will appear in the HUD display alongwith the set speed. Use the GAPbutton on the steering wheel to setthe follow distance. Press the + and –symbols on the steering wheel toincrease or decrease the followdistance. The “vehicle ahead” symbol ( ) willappear on the HUD when a vehicle inyour path is moving slowly enoughfor the ACC to respond. ACC willadjust speed and maintain the setgap. The ACC may also apply limitedbraking if necessary.

Increase, Decrease or ResumeSpeed• Push the switch to the + position

to increase a set speed.• Press the button at the end of the

lever to decrease a set speed.• Move the switch to the + position

to resume a set speed afterbraking.

Passing Another Vehicle If you need to pass a vehicle, use theaccelerator pedal. With your foot onthe pedal, the ACC system cannotautomatically apply the brakes. Whenyou remove your foot from theaccelerator, ACC will return tonormal operation.

Note: ACC may not detect stationary orslow-moving objects that suddenly appearin your lane, and may even acceleratetoward these objects. Always give yourcomplete attention to driving and beprepared to take appropriate action in allsituations.

DRIVER SHIFT CONTROLDriver Shift Control (DSC) is aninnovative feature that combines theconvenience of an automatictransmission with the feel of a high-performance manual.

In the Automatic Overdrive position,the transmission will shift in thecustomary fashion. To use the DSCmanual mode, move the shift leverto the left. For a crisp upshift, tap theshift lever forward and release. Todownshift, tap the lever rearwardand release. Your selected gear willappear in the HUD.

HEATED AND COOLED SEATSFor added comfort, your XLR featuresinnovative seats that can be heatedor cooled. The seat controls areincorporated into the main climatecontrol system panel.

Press the seat temperature button toturn the feature on and select yourdesired setting. The left buttoncontrols the driver’s seat and theright button controls the passenger’sseat. Each press of the buttonadvances you to a different setting.

The available settings in order are: HI HEAT, LO HEAT, OFF, HI COOL, LO COOL, OFF. You will experience the temperaturechanges in only a few minutes. Thefeature automatically shuts off whenthe vehicle is turned off.

You’ve made a significantinvestment in a premium vehicle andit is important to have specificmaintenance services performed toprotect your investment and toensure the long-term enjoyment ofyour XLR.That’s why Cadillac is providing youwith the XLR Premium Care programat no additional charge.XLR Premium Care will provide thefollowing recommended scheduledmaintenance for your XLR at nocharge1:• Engine Oil and Engine Oil Filter

Replacement

Simply return to the Cadillacdealership where you purchasedyour XLR or any other Cadillacdealership of your choice that isauthorized to service Cadillac XLRs.The dealership will perform therequired maintenance service andsend you on your way — with noout-of-pocket expense to you.The Cadillac XLR Premium Careprogram remains in effect for the first4 years or 50,000 miles ofownership, whichever occurs first.2

Like the Cadillac New Vehicle LimitedWarranty, XLR Premium Care istransferable to any subsequentowner.
