We will be discussing your child's progress and the goals and im- provement that are being made since we last met in October. It is our goal to get 100% of the Woodview parents in the building during this week. If you have not already made a conference time with your child's teacher, please do so immediately. This is an essential component to stu- dent learning and completing the partnership between the home/school relationship. A reminder that Thursday, February 11th will be a 1/2 day (11:00 dismissal; afternoon kindergarten attends that day in the morning) and that there will be no student attendance on Friday, February 12th due to the parent/teacher conferences. Also, there will be no student attendance on Monday, February 15th because of Presidents' Day. I hope all of the families are able to enjoy that nice, long weekend. We hope the weather will cooperate!! A special thank you also to the PTO and all of the volunteers who helped make the Spaghetti Dinner/Lip Sync show such a success. It was great to see so many student and teacher acts up on the big stage. We're always excited to have these special evenings where the students, par- ents, and teachers get together! Sincerely, Jeff Knapp Principal

Coming to Woodview’s Multipurpose Room

February 8 through the 11th Monday, February 8, 8:30 – 10:30AM/1:15-6:00PM Tuesday, February 9, 8:30 – 10:30AM/1:15-7:00PM Wednesday, February 10, 8:30 – 10:30AM/1:15-7:00PM Thursday, February 11, 10:00AM - 8:00PM Mark Your Calendars and come on in to the Book Fair Diner. It’s “All You Can Read” all week long! During the week of the Book Fair, the students will walk through the fair with their classrooms and have a chance to make a wish list to bring home! If you would like to browse this fair’s book selections and create a wish list of your own, visit Woodview’s Scho-lastic Homepage at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/woodviewlovesbooks Contribute to your child’s classroom library through the Teacher Wish List Display at the

Fair. Teachers will pick and place the books in their designated bins. Just pick a book from your teachers’ bin and bring it to the register. Your child will get a sticker to place in the book with his/her name on it! Every child deserves a book! This is why we are again promoting the ONE FOR BOOKS pro-gram through Scholastic. For every dollar raised, Scholastic will match it to 3 great charities. Plus Woodview students, who otherwise couldn’t purchase books, get to spend the money we raise at the fair. Volunteers make this fair happen. Anyone interested in volunteering at the fair can email Judy Brown at [email protected] or call 847-223-2843!

Our Fun Fair, Bingo Night and Raffle are coming up quickly, March 5th at 6:00pm!

All of these fun events have been combined

to provide you and your family a full night of fun and excitement!

We will need lots of volunteers for this huge event! Please contact Jenny Marshall or Lisa Bako if you are able to help with what we

expect to be a fun filled evening!

The PTO would like to thank the 100+ volunteers that helped make

our 1st Spaghetti Dinner and Lip Sync show such an enormous suc-

cess! After tallying the ticket sales, we estimate that more than 350

people attended the dinner and show! All of the acts were fantas-

tic! We could not have pulled it off without the

food donations, decorations and servers. Special

thanks to the Grayslake Fire Department for lend-

ing us tables and the janitorial staff for helping us

set up and clean up for the event. A big “you rock”

goes out to Dan Nielson, our awesome DJ/MC for

the evening. He did a fantastic job, especially with

all of our changes! It was a collaborative effort that

paid off for our students and staff at Woodview!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Pictures will be included soon!

On Tuesday, January 19th, the Fine Arts Committee sponsored the first of three assem-blies for the 2009-2010 school year. David Hall came to the school to present the pro-gram, “Marimbamania!”. The kids were delighted and entertained with his musical

presentation and learned much about the instrument. Mr. Hall, who is a full-time per-cussionist with the Grand Rapids Symphony, played four different marimbas during the presentation. His presentation included musical selections from around the world in-cluding African, Japanese, American-Jazz, Mexican, and a German classical piece.

The children and staff were very amazed with his incredible talent and the versatility of this instrument.
