Every week brought a new milestone and more reasons to celebrate. “Today, as an office volunteer, I love to see how quickly and cheerfully members’ requests are filled. Both the membership and the volunteer rolls have grown tremendously since we began. Trying to wedge another new member file into the file drawer gives me a lift. Happy NESTiversary!

Winter Edition

Seattle celebrates Neighbor Appreciation Day at the very same time that we’re celebrating our 4th membership anniversary. How perfect is that?! Anniversaries are a sweet intersection of past and future. I hope to see you at our first-ever Annual Meeting, this Saturday, January 30th, where we will be planning for 2016. It’s a perfect time for you and your neighbors to put new ideas into action together. And now, enjoy reading about Donna’s and Barbara’s earliest recollections of NEST.

February 2016

Thanks to you, NEST is one of the most engaged villages nationally. Our monthly calendar? Each event and activity is organized by members and volunteers. NEST has a place for everyone!

Looking forward to seeing you this month,

“The day we signed up with NEST was a ‘snow day’ in Seattle. Just about everything was shut down, but Judy braved the storm and arrived at our doorstep. My husband, Floyd, and I had a great visit and signed up. We liked the idea of neighbors getting together.

“My primary NEST activity now is the Wednesday morning Magnu-son Park walk. I wouldn’t miss it unless I was sick. We walk through the marsh or along the lake shore, observing nature and the changes we’ve seen since the last Wednes-day together.” - Donna Kostka, Founding Member

NEST Works with EASE*What’s possible with NEST? Almost anything! A few things that happened last month....• Member Mifa moved to Seattle from the USSR 25 years ago, and volunteer Mary has been

studying Russian for most of her life. When Mary went to visit Mifa on her birthday with a few Russian treats, Mifa surprised her with a whole spread including Smoked Tongue in Beef Gel from the Russian store. Mary says, “45 years of Russian study, and I never ran across tongue before. It is way good.”

• Donna just made the switch from a PC to a Mac computer. Kate has been visiting with Donna a few times a month to teach her the ins and outs of her new system. With tax season on the horizon they’ve been learning new programs. Now, not only does Donna have a system for tracking her budget, she’s gotten her address books organized, too.

• Robin and Wayne’s 25-year-old dishwasher broke down right before her family vacation (and just a week after she joined NEST)! She wasn’t sure if anyone would be able to repair her machine and worried she might need a new one. Luckily our newest trusted vendor Nick Rubio was able to fix Robin’s dishwasher AND her flukey cooktop all before she had to leave town.
