We’ll all gather and spend the night in Seattle, WA, before being transported to our ship on the day we sail. The cruise includes being in Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, viewing glaciers and perhaps a moose. And there will be a time each day when we gather on our Princess ship for a time of reflection, devotion, inspiration and prayer. Please consider joining us on this memorable trip. Each time we hear the same reactions: “Life changing!”, “I’ll never be the same!”, “I’ll never read the Bible the same way!”, “Awesome!” Now it’s your turn as we return to this fascinating land in the beautiful fall season. Ever read about Paul being imprisoned in Caesarea and wonder what that place looks like today? We’ll be there. Have you ever tried to picture the scene of Gideon choosing his 300 soldiers? That very spot is on our schedule. How about where Joseph and Mary lived as kids, where Jesus walked on the water, where Peter denied Christ, where Christ was held just before His crucifixion, or where Peter had his vision. All those places and much, much more are on our program for what promises to be all that you would wish for in most memorable experiences. Check our website for all the details. v Walt was invited to speak at the Rocky Mountain Region of the Association of Christian Schools, Int’l (ACSI) held in Phoenix, AZ. A few of the teachers who attended paused for this picture between meetings. w Also pictured with Walt is Jerry Bowen, Director.

x Walt was invited to speak at the chapel meeting of the Baltimore Ravens when they were in Charlotte to play the Carolina Panthers. Pictured here with Walt is the Ravens Quarterback Coach, Jim Zorn.

y Walt was one of many speakers at the Maximum Man Conference in Millington, TN. He is pictured with two other presenters, Charles Lowery (l) and John ‘Bull’ Bramlett (r).

ISRAEL PILGRIMAGE • The group who accompanied Winning With Encouragement to the land of Israel in November is pictured below sitting on the steps that lead up to the walls of the ancient city of Jerusalem. At the top of the steps are sealed gates, once open and used by the people going to the Temple Mount. Jesus and His disciples would have used this same route as they went to the Temple. One of

the highlights of the Israel experience is gathering with the people at the Jordan River and conducting a baptism. That is what has been captured here on the left as over half of those traveling with us chose to take part in this very moving and special experience, one they will never forget.

It’s always the way, isn’t it? A few months after you have saved up and finally purchased your latest and greatest electronic gadget or game, the manufacturers come out with a new version. This summer I purchased my first smart phone. I read that it has 3G capabilities. Almost immediately after that they were bragging about a new 4G phone. Even though I have no idea what that means it just sounded like something better than what I had just purchased. Although highly debatable, a 4 of anything is better than a 3 of something, isn’t it? Did I get ripped off? Quickly I was suffering from IPP (inferior phone phobia). I found myself going around hoping no one would dare ask me how many G’s I had; that could be embarrassing.

I have to face the fact that I’m not really into gadgets. This is a direct result, I am afraid, of intelligence that is nowhere near as advanced as my age. I recall how lost I was when I first viewed the instruction manual that came with my fancy phone. Actually, what came with the phone was a tiny booklet that obviously was prepared for individuals who needed just a few instructions knowing they could easily figure out the rest. Since I did not fall into the ‘easily figure out the rest’ category, I set out to get my hands on the full manual. After a lot of emails to the manufacturer, 4 long conversations with different people in customer service, and a phone call to my congresswoman, 3 months after purchasing my phone I received an instruction manual for my whatchamacallit. That thing was only 9 pages less than a description of the new US HealthCare policy and 5 pages thinner then the new Mecklenberg County tax code. The day it arrived I picked it up twice in lieu of working out at the gym.

Want to hear what else I did to help me effectively use my latest and greatest gadget? I, along with about 65 others, went through a two-hour Saturday morning instruction class. You should have been

there. It was taught by a guy who had just graduated from MIT and seemed to assume we had all gone to the same institution but had a higher GPA than he did. I arrived with confidence and a smile and left with a frown. I got in my car and tried to implement a technique the instructor had covered but found out my fingers were too fat.

The funny part of this is that even though I always think I need to upgrade because there might be something better out there than what I already have, the truth is I haven’t begun to master a third of the capabilities of the phone I currently own.

It’s kind of like life. In reality I don’t need to learn something new or different as much as I need to put into practice what I already know. Or better yet, it’s really true in the Christian life. One of my favorite speakers, Dr. Howard Hendricks, used to say: “We already know 99% more than what we are practicing.”

Perhaps instead of thinking we need to ‘go deeper’ (whatever that means), go on a crusade or prepare ourselves for debate on something that really doesn’t matter, perhaps we should just concentrate on what we do know. A good place to begin would be to see if we are practicing Colossians 1:10, Ephesians 4:1, or especially Ephesians 5:15 — all of which speak of our walk and whether it is worthy. Want to know more? You can read all about it in our easy to understand instruction manual.
