Overall purpose of this series on Leadership

PrinciplesTo provide concepts and tools for effective leadership and management so that you can: • Be more anointed in your workplace.

• Use these material to facilitate the work of evangelism.



Objectives

• 1. Participants will understand the importance of positive affirmations as a way of encouragement.

• 2. Participants will learn how to encourage others.



Passage to memorizePsalm 86: 9-12

Teach me your way O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart,

that I may fear your name. I will praise you o Lord my God with all my heart; I will glorify

your name forever.



Affirmations

Notice how Solomon communicates love and affirmation.

Song of Solomon 1: 10-15



Encourage those in your care through affirmation

Identify first – Declare what it is you

appreciate. Name it.




Specify second. Be as specific as you can. No generalizations

about their style.




Quantify thirdly. Express how they have made a measurable

difference in your life.




Magnify fourthly: Encourage your followers liberally in public, before their peers.



Encouragement

Encouragement ought to be given sincerely, personally, specifically, publicly

and frequently.Philippians: 1: 3-11



Encouragement is the oxygen of the

soul; everyone needs it and they

perform better when they get it.



Encouragement

• Good leaders liberally hand out encouragement.

• It costs little to affirm others, yet pays great dividends.

• Capitalize on the power of encouragement.

• Read 2 Thes. 1:3-6



Encouragement should be …

Personal: Tell people how much you believed in them.




Pointed: Tell people specifically what you appreciate about

them.




Public and purposeful: Tell others and aim for something during your encouragement.



Jesus affirms the church at Smyrna: Revelations 2:8-11

• Jesus encourages the church to stand firm and to keep going.

• He reminds them of the reward that awaits them and that their trouble will be temporary.

• People get emotionally low, they grow weary and become doubtful.

• They need a leader’s encouragement.



Affirmations for a spiritual connection:

• The light of God is guiding me in everything I do…

• I now surrender to the will of God… • Divine guidance is with me always… • Divine wisdom unfolds within me now… • I am now filled with the light and love of God… • I now call on the light of God to guide me… • I am one with God.



Prayer Focus• Father, In the name of Jesus, I

surrender myself to walk in the Word. Your word living in me produces the Life in this world.

• The word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. It makes my way plain before me.

• I boldly and confidently say that my heart is fixed and established on the solid foundation – the Living Word of God! Amen

• But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it - he will be blessed in what he does.” (NIV)
