Congratulations Mr. Jones! We want to extend our congratulations and best wishes to Milton High School Principal, Mr. Cliff Jones. He was promoted to the Ex-ecutive Directory of Accountability position in Fulton County. We will miss him but we know he is moving on to do bigger and better things impacting all schools in the district! Congratulations Mr. Jones for well deserved opportunity! 8th Grade Ceremony We have approximately 700 parents who will be attending Friday’s ceremony. A reminder that you will not be allowed in without a ticket and each family can only get 2 tickets. We have enforced this policy strictly over the last 2 years due to the limited space in our gymnasi-um. Thank You PTSA Thank you to our PTSA for doing a fabulous job during “Teacher Ap-preciation Week.” Our teachers enjoyed all the treats, supplies and t-shirts! It was a great way to recognize and thank our teachers. If you haven’t already—please remember to send in a thank you card or email to any teacher who you felt made a difference in your child’s life! School Governance Council We had a great meeting this week that I wanted to share with you all. After analyzing a lot of our data, from test scores to student/parent/staff surveys, we have come to an agreement on our 3 long-term objectives which will be the foundation for our strategic plan. The council has broken up into three working groups so that each group will take ownership of creating a plan for one of the goals. We will share this work at our next SGC meeting on August 5th at 9:00am. Parents are welcome to attend.

STEM Day at Northwestern!
Last Friday Northwestern celebrated Georgia’s 2nd annual STEM day. In 6th
grade students were presented with the challenge of building the longest ramp
for a marble to roll on using file folders. In 7th students were challenged to
build catapults that sent an object the farthest and then had to graph the re-
sults. In 8th grade some students built water molecules out of toothpicks and
gummy bears; others were challenged to build a device that would allow an egg
to drop 15 feet without cracking. Students all enjoyed the activities and were
able to learn a little more about the engineer design process.

Tryouts will consist of a practice format with fundamental drills on
fielding, throwing and hitting. It is important to have your athletes
there for one of the three days and on time. If your athlete pitches or
catches, they will have a designated time to pitch and catch. Pitchers
will have the opportunity to show their various pitches, accuracy and
control and catchers will be able to showcase their pop time, arm
strength and accuracy.

Bags of Dignity
Your backpack carried your books this year. Now, it can carry someone’s whole world.
The homeless in Atlanta would be thrilled to have your fairly good condition used backpack to make their life a little easier. It may seem hard to believe – your used backpack making such a change in someone’s life. But, in previous years, we were able to collect over 200 backpacks for distribution to the homeless of Atlanta, and there were tears of joys from the recipients. - tears because they would have something permanent to carry their few belongings. This year, at the end of the school year, please consider donating your backpack. We will have collection bags at the front entrance during the last week of school. The backpacks will be collected and distributed at St. Francis Table Soup Kitchen across from Underground Atlanta. Please make sure you check with your parents before you donate your backpack. Also, make sure you have removed all personal items. However, feel free to place sample sized toiletries (shampoo, soap, tooth-paste) or a pair of socks in the main compartment, as these would be greatly appreciated.
