Palestine High School students spend many hours each year preparing for a mental competition, UIL Academics. It is a great competition that enhances what students learn in the classroom, helps them develop self-confidence, and teaches them important life lessons they are certain to use after graduation. I would like to thank our students for their willingness to represent Palestine ISD and their coaches for helping them prepare. Good luck to our students as they prepare to compete at the UIL Academics Regional competition in Brenham, May 2-3, 2014. However, A.M. Story Intermediate and Palestine Junior High School will be priorities as all other campuses received the majority of the construction and renovations provided by the May, 2009 construction bond. The Board approved the resolution authorizing the QSCB with the provision that the Palestine community be afforded the opportunity to purchase bonds. The Qualified School Construction Bond will provide funds in the amount of $6,420,000.00 that will be repaid over a period of 15 years with an interest rate of approximately 0%. This construction bond will not incur any tax increase for taxpayers.

A Community of Learners…
A special THANK YOU to the Junior High and High School for supporting our Story Scholars as they prepare for the STAAR test. The Junior High Cheerleaders, the Kit-Kats, and Drum Line rocked the cafeteria for us during our STAAR Pep Rally. An additional shout-out goes to Mr. Carr and the students in AV classes for creating a motivational video. These students from other campuses exemplify the support of excellence and learning in our community.

There is a lot more to planning an Easter Egg hunt then just taking some eggs and throwing them out on the lawn for students to find. And while that may work, where is the fun? With the help of some super dads from each classroom, students at Washington Early Childhood Center had a great time finding eggs in some very unusual and creative spots. And the Dads had just as much fun hiding them, and watching as they were located by the bright-eyed searchers. With a beautiful school backyard and a wonderful bright, clear, and warm weather day, Dads spent some quality time hiding Easter Eggs for their children's classes. Students came out laughing, running and filling their baskets with colorful eggs. The rest of the day was filled with fun eggrelated activities. Thank you, DADS, for making this a terrific day for all of us at the school. !
