Installation process:- Installing Windows XP can take upto 45min .

Tomaketheprocessmoremanageable,ithas

been broken upintoseveralsections. Whenyou areready,install Windows XP:

Part 1: Begin the installation

1.Insertthe Windows XP CD into your computerand restartyour computer.

2.Ifprompted tostart fromthe CD,press SPACEBAR. If you

misstheprompt (itonly appears fora fewseconds),restart

your computertotry again.

Windows XP Setupbegins. During thisportion ofsetup, yourmousewillnotwork,so you must usethekeyboard. On theWelcome to Setup page,

press ENTER.

On theWindows XP Licensing Agreement page,read the licensing

agreement. Pressthe PAGE DOWN key toscrolltothebottomofthe

agreement. Then press F8.

Thispageenables you toselectthehard disk driveon which Windows XPwillbeinstalled. Once you completethisstep,all dataon yourhard diskdrivewillberemoved and cannotberecovered. Itisextremelyimportantthat you havearecentbackup copy of your filesbeforecontinuing. When you haveabackup copy,press D,and then press Lwhen prompted. This deletes yourexisting data.

Press ENTER toselectUnpartitioned space,whichappearsby default.

Press ENTER again toselectFormat the partition using the NTFS

file system,whichappearsby default.

Windows XP erases yourhard disk drive using aprocess

called formatting and then copiesthesetup files. You

can leave yourcomputer and return in 20to30minutes.

Part 2: Continue the installation:- Windows XP restartsand then continueswiththeinstallation process. Fromthis

point forward, you can use yourmouse. Eventually,theRegional and LanguageOptions pageappears. ClickNext toacceptthe defaultsettings. If you are

multilingualorpreferalanguageotherthan English, you can changelanguage

settingsaftersetupis complete

On thePersonalize Your Software page,type your nameand

yourorganization name. Someprograms usethisinformation to

automatically fillin your namewhen required. Then, clickNext.

On theYour Product Key page,type yourproductkey asit

appearson your Windows XP CD case. Theproductkey is unique

forevery Windows XP installation. Then, clickNext.

On theComputer Name and Administrator Password page,in the Computer namebox,

typea namethat uniquely identifies your computerin yourhouse,suchas

FAMILYROOM or TOMS. You cannot usespacesorpunctuation. If you connect your

computertoa network, you will usethis computer nameto find shared filesand

printers. Typeastrong password that you can rememberin theAdministrator passwordbox,and then retypeitin theConfirm password box. Writethepassword down and

storeitin asecureplace. ClickNext.

On theDate and Time Settings page,set your computers

clock. Then, clicktheTime Zone down arrow,and select your

timezone. ClickNext.

Windows XP willspend aboutaminute configuring your

computer. On theNetworking Settings page, clickNext.

Part 3: Complete the installation:-

Windows XP willspend 20or30minutes configuring your computerand will

automatically restartwhen finished. When theDisplay Settings dialog appears,

clickOK.

When the Monitor Settings dialog box appears, click OK.

The finalstageofsetupbegins. On theWelcome to Microsoft

Windows page, clickNext

On theHelp protect your PC page, clickHelp protect my PC

by turning on Automatic Updates now. Then, clickNext.

Windows XP willthen checkif you are connected tothe Internet:

If you are connected tothe Internet,selectthe choicethat

describes your network connection on theWill this computer

connect to the Internet directly, or through a network? page. If

youre notsure,acceptthe defaultselection,and clickNext.

Windows XP Setup displaystheReady to activate Windows?

page. If you are connected tothe Internet, clickYes,and then

clickNext. If you are not yet connected tothe Internet, clickNo,

clickNext,and then skiptostep24. Aftersetupis complete,Windows XP willautomatically remind you toactivateand

register your copy of Windows XP.

On theCollecting Registration Information page, completethe

form. Then, clickNext

On theWho will use this computer? page,typethe nameof

eachperson whowill usethe computer. You can use first names

only, nicknames,or full names. Then clickNext. Toadd users

aftersetupis completeortospecify apassword tokeep youraccountprivate,read Createand customize useraccounts.
