Hi everyone,
Last Week of Canteen
Friday will be the last day of our school canteen. On behalf of
the school community, I would like to acknowledge and thank
Helen Williams for her incredible contributions to the canteen.
This includes 11 years as a paid employee and 7 years of
voluntary service prior to this!
I would also like to acknowledge Sam Franklin, who has been
working as a paid employee in the canteen for a short period.
The decision to outsource the canteen was made at the
February school council meeting. The school is collecting
lunch options from local businesses and a decision will be
made at the next school council meeting (March 16th) about the
successful provider. This will mean that there will be no orders
other than Subway on a Thursday for a few weeks. Once a
provider is selected, all lunch orders will be via QkR. More
information about this will follow.
Prep Grandparents & Special Friends Morning
On Tuesday 10th March (day after Labour Day Public
holiday), the Prep team will be holding their annual
Grandparents Special Friends from 9.00-11.00am. The Prep
students will be writing and sending out personal invitations
next week. The morning will involve reading, singing, craft &
dance and promises to be a lot of fun. We always get a pleasing
turnout on this day and are confident the same will occur this
year. We will also have some guests from BUPA aged care
attend this activity.
Smile Squad Dental Service
The school dental program initiative ‘Smile Squad’ provides
free oral health examinations and follow up treatment to all
Victorian government primary, secondary and special school
students over the next four years. This includes:
•free annual check-ups
•teeth cleaning
•fluoride applications
•fillings
•other non-cosmetic, follow-up treatments to make sure our
kids have healthy teeth.
The initiative is led by the Department of Health and Human
Services (DHHS) and Dental Health Services Victoria
(DHSV). The Department of Education and Training is
providing input into the program to ensure it works within a
school context.
Smile Squad was piloted in Term 3, 2019 across four areas. As
part of the launch of this initiative, the school will be visited
by the Deputy Premier and Minister of Education, James
Merlino on Friday and Jacinta Allan will also be present for
the official launch.
Uniform Shop
Due to the impact of the Coronavirus in China, we are waiting
on back orders of size 8 uniform items. Once they arrive the
school will let families know.
Breaky Club
Parents please note that Breaky Club will continue during
building works, it will be held in the BER building as of next
Wednesday.

Building Refurbishment update Searle Brothers have erected their temporary fencing around the
school building included in Stage 1 (Eastern end of the building). A
construction work enclosure has begun at the front of the school on
the grassed area to the East of the entrance. This means that parents
and students will no longer be able to access classrooms via the
marked walkway along the staff carpark. If students and families are
entering the school from Plumridge Street they will now need to use
the main entrance (near the crossing) or the bike entrance closer to the
bridge. The building works will not affect families using the back
entrance to the school (Bosquet Street).
Parents & Friends AGM
Congratulations to the following parents who were elected to hold office bearer positions for 2020 at the Annual General Meeting
earlier this week: President: Sam Lempio-Franklin, Vice President: Sally Richardson, Secretary: Kate Duncan, Assistant
Secretary: Unfilled
Thank you to all who nominated for positions. A special thanks also to the outgoing office bearers (Sally Richardson, Kim Engi,
Kathy Jordan, Kate Duncan and Kelly Adcock), whose commitment over the last 12 months contributed greatly to the ongoing
support of WHPS events and the school community.
All parents of students at WHPS are eligible to become members of PFG at any time of the year.
Schools Clean Up Australia Day Friday 28th February
Last Friday, all the students, staff and some parents took part in a clean up of our local community. Al up, over 15kgs of rubbish was
collected! Sad that there is that much rubbish in or local community but fantastic that the school was able to contribute and assist to
clean up the neighbourhood.

Next Meeting
The next general meeting of the PFG will be held on Wednesday 15th April at approximately 9.15am in the
staffroom. All newcomers are welcome to attend any meeting! You may bring along younger siblings to our
meetings as well. Come and have morning tea with us, a chat and a laugh, and find out what we do around the
school.
Mother’s Day/Special Person Stall
Our stall will be held on Friday 8th May, early in Term 2. As always, we request that all students donate a gift to the
value of $2.00 – new, unopened gifts only please. Over the holidays is a good time to have a look around and pick up
a bargain. We ask that everyone please provide one gift per student to enable every student to purchase a gift at the
stall. Please leave your donations at the office by Monday 4th May. Thank you for your support.
Thank you from PFG members
