A NOTE FROM FATHER ANDREW Page 2

MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK

Holy Rosary is said

every Sunday morning

at 8 am just before

the beginning of the

8:30 Mass.

Communion Service

Every Tuesday

at 9:00 am Except on

Holy Days

Dear Parish Family,

I hope you are keeping warm during these cold days. One way to keep warm is to drink a good

glass of wine; which brings me to reminding you of our Winter Wine Fest in two weeks. It is a great

event and everyone who comes always has a great time. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet you

can purchase them after mass or at the parish office during the week.

The passage from St. Luke’s Gospel today helps us understand the relationship between sacred tra-

dition and sacred Scripture. As Catholics, we believe that the Bible is an essential part of divine reve-

lation that goes hand in hand with the teachings that were established by Jesus and passed on by his

apostles. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that the church “does not derive her certain-

ty about all revealed truths from the holy Scriptures alone. Both Scripture and Tradition must be

accepted and honored with equal sentiments of devotion and reverence” (#82). Here, Luke empha-

sizes that what he writes is a confirmation of what was already being taught.

This fact should help us appreciate the gift of the Bible. Although the Bible is not the only source of

revelation, it does help us to have what Luke calls “certainty” regarding our faith. We do hear Bible

readings at Mass, but we would do well to read the Bible on our own as well. Let us not miss the

opportunity to hear God’s word speaking to us every day.

Have a wonderful week.

Hope to see you on the weekend.

FAITH IN OUR FUTURE

Two new initiatives, both commissioned by Bishop David M. O'Connell, seek to bring about positive change, deep-

en faith and build a vibrant future of mission and service in the Diocese of Trenton. In the first of these initiatives,

Faith in Our Future, we will look closely at our parish of Church of the Holy Eucharist and the surrounding com-

munity. In the weeks to come, you will be kept informed of our progress in this effort, as well as be asked to partic-

ipate.

The second initiative, Faith to Move Mountains, is already in progress. It is designed to help us in realizing our

plans to more effectively spread the Gospel and bring people to faith in Jesus Christ.

Faith in Our Future is a planning process that calls upon all of us to reflect upon the ways that we experience, live

and express our Catholic faith together as the circumstances of the past and present give way to the new and chang-

ing realities that we face as a local Church. For complete details please visit our website at

http://holyeucharist.org/#/faith-in-our-future

From Father Andrew:

During the coming weeks I will be talking to you about “The Story of Your Life” in my message (homily)

series. I invite you to dig deeper into your story. We will be providing a question(s) for personal reflection to help you dig deeper into your story. Below are questions to consider based on this weekend’s message. Take

10 minutes get some quiet time and answer the question. Perhaps you can even dedicate a small journal to write down your thoughts.

If you like you can even share your answer with family members or friends, it will make interesting discus-

sions. If you would like to re-read this past weekend’s message, visit our website beginning Monday at: http://holyeucharist.org/#/mass-times-and-calendar/homilies.

Your life is a story. It’s a story to be told. Make it a story worth telling.

Questions for week 4 ( January 23,24 2016)

1. Where do you feel the battle being waged over your heart? Are you able to specifically name the area of

weakness where Satan tempts you to choose a small story while God calls you into a big story? 2. We all want to be restored. What keeps you from admitting your sins to your brothers and sisters in our

Faith Community? How honest is the growth environment that you’re creating? 3. How can your Faith Community help you face your brokenness and help you engage the work of restora-

tion?

Once Upon a Time for Children

In addition to Father Andrew’s message series, our Children’s Word program will also be exploring a similar

theme called Once Upon a Time.

In this series, we will discover our God story. You may be thinking what is a God Story? Every experience we have is part of our story. These experiences can be happy, sad, frustrating and even amazing. But when we

live like Jesus our story is included in God’s tale. And He is there to help us around every bend. Here’s some questions to share and discuss with your children:

1. What are your gifts and talents? (Note: Gifts and talents are different from our Personality traits. Personali-

ty traits = the qualities that influence the way we act & react. For example, some of us tend to be more out-going; some of us are shy. Some of us like to be silly; some of us prefer to be more serious; etc. Gifts & talents

= "actions," things we like and can do well, and often things share with others. For example, some of us are good at sports, others at music, and others prefer artwork or building things, baking, writing, etc.)

2. What is a gift/talent that you admire in another person?

3. How can you share your gift/talent with other people to make life better?

4. How is God writing _____________________'s story?

give to our parish.” Father Andrew

The 2016 winter has arrived, the cold weather is here for the long run and the economic crisis continues to increase the

number of families coming into our food pantry. We have over 100 families using our pantry on a monthly basis. We need to purchase more food because of the increase and the rising cost of food. Because of these circumstances, we are

asking you to donate items to our pantry. We are always in need of Paper Products, Detergent. Soap, Shampoo, Tooth-paste, Peanut Butter & Jelly and Canned Meats.

The Annual Catholic Appeal throughout the Diocese of Trenton has begun. Each year the Bishop

the Annual Catholic Appeal. Our single Act of Faith propels the works of love that build up our Church. You make that happen with a generous gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal. As the people of

the Diocese of Trenton, you have an opportunity to help others see Christ working in our midst. Goal: $61,498.00 Pledged To Date: $52,868.00

RESPECT L IFE M INISTRY One of the champions of “Life” in our country is the Knights of Columbus.

A recent article in Columbia Magazine was written by the Knights Supreme Chaplin Archbishop William Lori. An excerpt of his article follows. “The goal of the pro-life movement is not political power, but rather to create the condi-

tions in our society whereby the life of both the mother and child are cherished and nurtured. During this Jubilee of Mercy, let us practice the corporal and spiritual works of mercy in service to the cause of human life. And when this

special year of grace has run its course, may we all be closer to creating a civilization of love” .
