PASSION The word "passion" connotes deep, focused engagement. It also relates to passivity, interestingly. The deeply passionate person in the Gospel narrative from Luke is Jesus. He appears passive, but he is not. He is wholly self-possessed and wholly present for the one day that begins on Thursday evening at his last meal with his apostles and ends with his burial before sunset the next day. Then follows the long Sabbath silence. The narrative of the Passion is read whole and without pause on the Palm Sunday of the Passion. This story, found in each of the Gospels, is unchanging. We are the ones who change. Each year, we bring ourselves with another year's history to hear and heed the story we so badly need. Our Parish Centennial Corner: Easter Vigil: mother of all liturgies A century ago when St. Martin became a parish, the liturgies were celebrated in Latin, the priest was mostly facing the altar - not the assembly, and most Catholics received Holy Communion once a year as their “Easter duty.” Then Pope Pius X (1903-14) encouraged Catholics to receive Communion more frequently and changed the age for First Communion from teenage years to the “age of reason” – 7 years old. One thing has remained the same: the Easter Vigil is the center of liturgical life, and every Sunday is a little Easter. This month we thank God for our liturgical ministers who faithfully serve our community.

Jubileo de la Misericordia

PASIÓN La palabra "pasión" conlleva un pro-fundo y determinado compromiso. Pero es interesante que también tiene relación a la pasividad. La persona profunda-mente apasionada del relato evangélico de Lucas es Jesús. Parece pasivo pero no lo es. Está totalmente consciente de sí mismo y totalmente presente al día que comienza el jueves por la noche en su última cena con los apóstoles y termina con su entierro antes de la puesta del sol el día siguiente. Entonces le sigue el largo silencio del sábado. El relato de la pasión se lee entero y sin pausa el Domingo de Ramos en la Pasión. Esta historia, que se encuentra en cada uno de los evangelios, no cam-bia. Somos nosotros los que cambiamos. Cada año, nos presentamos con otro año de historia para escuchar y hacerle caso a esta historia que tanta falta nos hace. “Ở tâm điểm của việc cử hành này, một cử hành có vẻ rất vui tươi lễ hội, là những lời chúng ta đã nghe thấy trong bài ca của thư gửi Giáo Đoàn Phliphê: "Người đã tự hạ” (2:8). Những lời này cho chúng ta thấy đường lối của Thiên Chúa và đường lối của Kitô hữu: đó là khiêm hạ. Một đường lối hằng làm cho chúng ta lấy làm lạ lùng và bần thần: chúng ta sẽ không bao giờ quen được với một vị Thiên Chúa khiêm hạ! Khiêm hạ trước hết là đường lối của Thiên Chúa: Thiên Chúa hạ mình bước đi với dân của Ngài, chịu đựng tính bất trung của họ. Điều này thật là rõ ràng khi chúng ta đọc thấy trong sách Xuất Hành. Chúa hạ mình biết bao khi nghe thấy tất cả những lời càu nhàu, tất cả những ai than trách Môsê mà thật ra là than trách Ngài, Cha của họ, Đấng đã mang họ ra khỏi cảnh nô lệ và dẫn họ trên con đường băng qua sa mạc để tiến về miền đất tự do. Tuần lễ này, Tuần Thánh, thời điểm dẫn chúng ta đến Lễ Phục Sinh, chúng ta sẽ theo con đường tự hạ mình này của Chúa Giêsu. Có thế tuần lễ này mới là tuần "thánh" cho chúng ta nữa! ... Chúng ta được trợ giúp và an ủi bởi mẫu gương của rất nhiều con người nam nữ trong thinh lặng và kín đáo hy hiến mình hằng ngày trong việc phục vụ người khác: một thân nhân bệnh nạn, một người già sống đơn côi, một người khuyết tật... Chúng ta cũng nghĩ đến tình trạng khổ nhục phải trải qua của tất cả những ai, vì muốn sống trung thành với Phúc Âm, đã gặp phải thái độ kỳ thị và phải trả giá của mình. Chúng ta cũng nghĩ tới những người anh chị em của chúng ta đang bị bách hại vì họ là Kitô hữu, những vị tử đạo trong thời đại của chúng ta. Họ từ khước không chịu chối bỏ Chúa Kitô và họ phải chịu xỉ nhục cùng tổn thương về phNm giá. Họ bước theo N gười trên con đường N gười đi. Chúng ta có thể nói về "một đám mây nhân chứng" (Do Thái 12:1). Tôi xin một lần nữa kêu gọi sự hỗ trợ của quý ông bà anh chị
