Beef, Veal and Lamb ReportBeef, Veal & Lamb-Beef output last week rose 1.9% but was 6% larger than last year.Still, year-to-date beef production is running 1.9% below '12. The USDA is forecasting

Q2 beef output to be 2.6% less than '12 which may support the beef markets. Pent up

grilling demand due to inclement weather this spring could also put upward pressure on

beef prices. The choice ribeye market usually moves 3.1% higher during the next two

weeks. However, any pending beef market increases may be short lived due to a

generally financially challenged consumer. U.S. retail beef prices in Mar were up 2.7%

versus a last year and a record high. Price USDA, FOB per pound.

    Dairy Report

Dairy- The international cheese markets are inflated which continues to support global demand for U.S. cheese. TheCME cheese markets are trending higher. Still, abundant domestic cheese stocks could temper further market gains forcheese in the near term. CME butter prices are tracking upward as well. The USDA is forecasting domestic milkproduction during Q2 to be .6% greater than '12. If dairy farmer margins remain attractive, milk output may be betterthan anticipated this summer. In turn, the usual summer rally for cheese and butter could be less intense.

    Pork Report

Pork- Pork output last week fell .6% but was .8% more than '12. The USDA is estimating Q2 pork production to be1% larger than a year ago. This could temper expected seasonal price increases for pork this spring. Pork demandremains sluggish due in part to continued trade restrictions on U.S. pork from China and Russia. Still, the porkmarkets usually firm this time of year. Since, 08, the average move during the next two weeks for the pork bellymarket is 5.8% higher. Mar U.S. retail pork prices were 1.6% below '12 but the highest since Dec.

    Canned Tomato Report

Tomato Products, Canned- Canned tomato supplies are historically adequate. The canned tomato markets arelikely to remain steady to firm this spring.

    Poultry Report

Poultry- Spot feed costs for chicken producers are the lowest since last Jun whichshould encourage chicken production. The six-week moving average for broiler type eggsets has trended lower recently but is still .9% better than '12. Chicken output in Q2

is projected by the USDA to be 1.8% larger than last year. This may temper price gains

for the chicken cutout this spring. The boneless skinless chicken breast market is the

highest since Sept but the upside risk from here may be small. The jumbo cut chicken

wing market typically trends 6.4% lower over the next three weeks. Chicken leg quarter

prices usually remain firm through early Jun. U.S. retail chicken prices in Mar were

up 4.2% versus '12 and the highest for the month on record.

combined Newfoundland/St. Lawrence quota this year is 3.6% more than '12. Newfoundland

fishermen are facing a 6.2% lower snow crab price from processors which is slowing

initial landings. This may support snow crab prices in the near term. Mar U.S. retail

seafood prices were up .8% versus a year ago and a record.
