The new Infiniti “Q” series replaces the outgoing “M” series of Infiniti’s flagship sedan. The new Q70 sedan that recently came my way is a handsome, beautifully detailed five- passenger cruiser with full sporting and luxury credentials. The base and Sport model Q70s are powered by a 330-horsepower 3.7-litre V6 engine and teamed with a seven-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control and downshift rev matching.The Infiniti Q70 is offered in two versions- a very well equipped Premium model and Deluxe trim that adds features such as intelligent cruise control, lane departure warning as well as blind spot warning and intervention systems.Interestingly there is also a Limo –like long wheelbase Q70L model available with an extra six- inches of legroom in the rear along with rear heated seats powered by a 416-hp 5.6- litre V8. Meanwhile the hybrid powered Q70 is motivated by a 302-hp 3.5-litre V6 and 67-hp rated electric motor producing a respectable 360-hp. The Sport trim adds: larger brakes and wheels sport steering and upgraded suspension components paddle shifters crafted from magnesium and adjustable sport seats for a – well sportier driving experience. All models are equipped with a four driving

mode selector — standard, eco, sport and snow. Our tester was a 2015 Infiniti Q70 3.7 AWD Base Priced at an MRSP of $52,000. Total price for our tester with options, freight and PDE came to $64,395.Safety technology is also high with lane guidance and warning system and Active Lane Control, which uses a camera-based lane marker detection system to keep the car in designated road lanes. Meanwhile, the Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) system can warn driver of risks they may not see is enhanced by its ability to sense the relative velocity and distance of a vehicle directly ahead and also two vehicles ahead.Interior wise, the Q70 offers a typical high-grade Infiniti cabin. Sumptuous leather seats and trim, fine wood inlays, soft textured plastics, and metal trim meet, greet and cosset you. Of note- is the classy driver-centric interior layout that now uses even better materials, colors and design tricks. General workmanship, fit and finish are excellent. The seats are comfortable and driver ergonomics are superb. On the road using the Standard driver selectable drive mode means a softer - more forgiving and slight less feel in everything from steering and suspension control. This is good for when ferrying around the in-laws! However Sport mode changes things as the Q70’s steering tightens up and becomes a shade sharper and the transmission’s shifts tighter and more defined. Together with responsive and willing V6, the Q70 becomes an entertaining, fast and exciting sports sedan. Acceleration is rapid but controlled with lots of passing and high speed cruising speed. Fuel economy in the V6 Q70 is rated at 13.2 L/100km in the city and 9.6 L/100km on the highway. To sum up, the 2014 Infiniti Q70 is a very competent sports sedan with technology, innovation, luxury and performance that cannot be ignored. Options can increase the price dramatically, but that’s always the case in this sector. A wonderful car to drive and own
