We  come  together  to  celebrate  our  Lord's  Passion.    As  we  walk  the  way  of  the  cross  let  us  pray  that  all  people  may  be  reconciled,  healed  and  forgiven.

Let  us  walk  with  Christ  together  as  one.

(Members  of  the  Roman  Catholic  Church  carry  the  cross  to  the  First  Station)

THE  FIRST  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"JESUS  HAS  HIS  LAST  SUPPER  WITH  HIS  FRIENDS"

(Reader  from  the  Catholic  Church)    A  man  came  among  us.  He  was  gentle.  He  encouraged  us  and  gave  us  hope.  He  did  not   condemn  but   reached  out   to   the  outcast.  He  brought  peace  where   there  had  been  strife  and  fear.  He  healed  our  bodies  and  souls.  He  taught  us  to  care  for  each  other.  He  called  us  friends  and  showed  us  all  that  we  were  all  brothers  and  sisters  of  a  loving  Father.  He  invited  us  to  walk  with  him.    Jesus  was  with  us  for  such  a  short  while.  When  the  time  was  drawing  near  for  him  to  leave  us  he  gave  us  a  great  gift.  He  taught  us  how  to  be  aware  of  His  presence  and  to   realise   for  all   time   the  hope,  peace  and   freedom  we  had  experienced  when  he  walked  together  with  us.  For  this  great  gift  we  have  given  thanks  through  the  ages.  Whenever  we  share  in  the  communion  of  his  body  and  blood  we  proclaim  his  death  until  he  comes  again.

—  A  Quiet  Moment  —

Leader:       Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.    Leader:    Lord,  for  the  times  we  have  not  recognised  you  as  a  guest  at  our

table.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  for  the  times  we  have  not  honoured  your  covenant.  Response:     Christ,  have  mercy.

Leader:       Lord,  for  the  times  we  have  betrayed  you.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.      "WERE  YOU  THERE?"

Were  you  there  when  they  crucified  my  Lord?  Were  you  there  when  they  crucified  my  Lord?  O  sometimes  it  causes  me  to  tremble,  tremble,  tremble.  Were  you  there  when  they  crucified  my  Lord?

THE  SECOND  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"JESUS  PRAYS  IN  THE  GARDEN"

(Reader  from  the  Catholic  Church)    Then  Jesus  came  with  them  to  a  small  estate  called  Gethsemane;  and  he  said  to  his  disciples,  "Stay  here  while  I  go  over  there  to  pray."  He  took  Peter  and  the  two  sons  of  Zebedee  with  him.  And  sadness  came  over  him,  and  great  distress.  Then  he  said  to  them,  "My  soul  is  sorrowful  to  the  point  of  death.  Wait  here  and  keep  awake  with  me."  And  going  a  little  further  he  fell  on  his  face  and  prayed.  "My  Father",  he  said,  "If  it  is  possible,  let  this  cup  pass  me  by.  Nevertheless,  let  it  be  as  you,  not  I,  would  have  it."

—  A  Quiet  Moment  —    Leader:       Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.    Leader:       Lord,  help  us  always  to  focus  on  your  will  for  us.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  help  us  when  we  are  weighed  down  with  sorrow.  Response:     Christ,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  help  us  in  the  silence  when  we  are  afraid.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.

“THE  LORD’S  MY  SHEPHERD”         The  Lord's  my  shepherd,  I'll  not  want.       He  makes  me  down  to  lie       in  pastures  green,  he  leadeth  me       the  quiet  waters  by.         My  soul  he  doth  restore  again;       and  me  to  walk  doth  make       within  the  paths  of  righteousness,       e'en  for  his  own  name's  sake.           Yea,  though  I  walk  in  death's  dark  vale,       yet  will  I  fear  none  ill;       for  thou  art  with  me;  and  my  rod       and  staff  me  comfort  still.

(Members  of  St  David’s  Uniting  Church  carry  the  cross  to  the  Third  Station)

THE  THIRD  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"JESUS  IS  BETRAYED  AND  ARRESTED"

(Reader  from  St  David’s  Uniting  Church)

He  was  still  speaking  when  Judas,  one  of  the  Twelve,  appeared,  and  with  him  a  large  number   of   men   armed   with   swords,   sent   by   the   chief   priests   and   elders   of   the  people.  Now  the  traitor  had  arranged  a  sign  with  them.  "The  one  I  kiss",  he  said,  "he  is  the  man.  Take  him  in  charge."  So  he  went  straight  up  to  Jesus  and  said,  "Greetings  Rabbi"   and   kissed   him.   Jesus   said   to   him,   "My   friend,   do  what   you   are   here   for."  Then  they  came  forward,  seized  Jesus  and  took  him  in  charge.    Then  all  the  disciples  deserted  him  and  ran  away.

—  A  Quiet  Moment  —    Leader:       Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.

"WERE  YOU  THERE?"  cont.

Were  you  there  when  they  arrested  him  at  night?  Were  you  there  when  they  arrested  him  at  night?  O  sometimes  it  causes  me  to  tremble,  tremble,  tremble.  Were  you  there  when  they  arrested  him  at  night?

THE  FOURTH  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"JESUS  IS  CONDEMNED  TO  DEATH"

(Reader  from  St  David’s  Uniting  Church)    In  the  morning  the  chief  priests  and  the  whole  council,  binding  Jesus,  led  him  away  and  delivered  him  to  Pilate.  And  they  all  condemned  him  and  said:  "He  is  guilty  unto  death".   And   Pilate   sat   in   the   place   of   judgment   and   delivered   him   to   them   to   be  crucified.

—  A  Quiet  Moment  —      Leader:       Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.    Leader:       Lord,  for  the  times  we  have  washed  our  hands  of  our  responsibilities.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  for  the  times  we  fail  to  do  what  is  right.  Response:     Christ,  have  mercy.

Leader:       Lord,  for  the  times  we  blame  others  for  our  actions.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.      “THE  LORD’S  MY  SHEPHERD”  cont.         My  table  thou  hast  furnished       in  presence  of  my  foes;       my  head  thou  dost  with  oil  anoint,       and  my  cup  overflows.         Goodness  and  mercy  all  my  life,       shall  surely  follow  me;       and  in  God's  house  for  evermore       my  dwelling  place  shall  be.

(Members  of  St  John’s  Anglican  Church  carry  the  cross  to  the    Fifth  Station)

THE  FIFTH  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"JESUS  IS  TORTURED”

(Reader  from  the  Anglican  Church)

Pilate  released  Barabbas  for  the  people.  He  ordered  Jesus  to  be  first  scourged,  and  then  handed  over  to  be  crucified.  The  governor's  soldiers  took  Jesus  with  them  into  the  praetorium  and  collected  the  whole  cohort  around  him.  Then  they  stripped  him  and  made  him  wear  a   scarlet   cloak,  and  having   twisted   some   thorns   into  a   crown  they  put   this  on  his  head  and  placed  a   reed   in  his   right  hand.  To  make   fun  of  him  they  knelt  to  him  saying,  "Hail,  King  of  the  Jews!"  And  they  spat  on  him  and  took  the  reed  and  struck  him  on  the  head  with  it.  And  when  they  had  finished  making  fun  of  him,  they  took  off  the  cloak  and  dressed  him  in  his  own  clothes  and  led  him  away  to  crucify  him.

—  A  Quiet  Moment  —    Leader:       Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.

Page 7: Waycross14 !frs14apr14,3pm

Leader:    Lord,  help  us  not  to  condemn  others  because  we  fear  they  are

greater.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  help  us  always  to  fight  against  injustice.  Response:     Christ,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  help  us  to  heal  the  wounds  of  others.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.      "WERE  YOU  THERE?"  cont.    Were  you  there  when  they  pierced  him  in  the  side?  Were  you  there  when  they  pierced  him  in  the  side?  O  sometimes  it  causes  me  to  tremble,  tremble,  tremble;  Were  you  there  when  they  pierced  him  in  the  side?

THE  SIXTH  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"JESUS  RECEIVES  THE  CROSS"

(Reader  from  the  Anglican  Church)    They  took  charge  of  Jesus,  and  carrying  his  own  cross  he  went  out  of  the  city  to  the  place  of  the  skull  or,  as  it  was  called  in  Hebrew,  Golgotha.    There   is  no  way  we  can  enter  the  mind  of  Christ  at  this  point  of  his  agony.  We  do  know  that  he  had  once  said  "Whoever  does  not  bear  his  own  cross  and  come  after  me,   cannot  be  my  disciple."  He  now  receives   the  cross,  out  of   love   for  his  Father,  and  the  world.  Through  the  cross  he  draws  all  people  to  himself.

 —  A  Quiet  Moment  —

Leader:       Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.

Page 8: Waycross14 !frs14apr14,3pm

Leader:       Lord,  enable  us  to  take  up  our  cross  and  follow  you.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  enable  us  to  relieve  the  suffering  of  others.  Response:     Christ,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  enable  us  to  hear  your  call.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.      “AMAZING  CRACE”         Amazing  grace  how  sweet  the  sound       that  saved  a  wretch  like  me!       I  once  was  lost,  but  now  am  found,       was  blind,  but  now  I  see.         ‘Twas  grace  that  taught  my  heart  to  fear,       and  grace  my  fears  relieved;       how  precious  did  that  grace  appear         the  hour  I  first  believed.

(Members  of  the  Baptist  Church  carry  the  cross  to  the  Seventh  Station)

THE  SEVENTH  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"JESUS  CARRIES  HIS  CROSS"

   (Reader  from  the  Baptist  Church)

Without  beauty,  without  majesty  (we  saw  him),  no  looks  to  attract  our  eyes;  a  thing  despised  and   rejected  by  people,   a  man  of   sorrows,   and   familiar  with   suffering,   a  man  to  make  people  screen  their  faces;  he  was  despised  and  we  took  no  account  of  him.      And   yet   ours   were   the   sufferings   he   bore,   ours   the   sorrows   he   carried.   He   was  pierced  through  for  our  faults,  crushed  for  our  sins.  On  him  lies  a  punishment  that  brings  peace,  and  through  his  wounds  we  are  healed.

Leader:       Lord,  for  the  times  we  fail  to  carry  other  people’s  burdens.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  for  the  times  we  fail  to  share—even  what  you  have  given  us.  Response:     Christ,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  for  the  times  we  have  not  welcomed  strangers.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.            “AMAZING  GRACE”  cont.         Through  many  dangers,  toils  and  snares       I  have  already  come;           ‘Tis  grace  that  brought  me  safe  thus  far,       and  grace  will  lead  me  home.

The  Lord  has  promised  good  to  me,           His  word  my  hope  secures;           He  will  my  shield  and  portion  be       As  long  as  life  endures.

—  A  Quiet  Moment  —    Leader:       Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.

THE  TENTH  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"JESUS  IS  NAILED  TO  THE  CROSS"

 (Reader  from  the  Salvation  Army)

When   they   had   reached   the   place   called  Golgotha,   that   is,   the   place   of   the   skull,  they  gave  him  wine  to  drink  mixed  with  gall,  which  he  tasted  but  refused  to  drink.  When  they  had  finished  crucifying  him  they  shared  out  his  clothing  by  casting  lots,  and  then  sat  down  and  stayed  there  keeping  guard  over  him.  Above  his  head  was  placed  the  charge  against  him;    it  read:    "This  is  Jesus,  the  King  of  the  Jews."

THE  ELEVENTH  STATION

 (Reader  from  the  Catholic  Church)

One   of   the   two   criminals   who   were   hanging   on   either   side   of   Jesus   abused   him  saying,  "Are  you  the  Christ?  Save  yourself  and  us  as  well."  But  the  other  spoke  and  rebuked  him.  "Have  you  no  fear  of  God  at  all?  You  got  the  same  sentence  as  he  did,  but   in   our   case  we  deserved   it:  we   are   paying   for  what  we  did.   But   this  man  has  done  nothing  wrong.  Jesus,  remember  me  when  you  come  into  your  kingdom."  He  replied,  "Indeed,  I  promise  you,  today  you  will  be  with  me  in  paradise."

Standing  by  the  cross  of   Jesus  were  his  mother,  and  his  mother's  sister,  Mary,   the  wife  of  Cleopas  and  Mary  Magdalene.  When  Jesus  saw  his  mother,  and  the  disciple  whom  he   loved  standing  near,  he  said  to  his  mother,  "Woman,  behold,  your  son!"    Then  he  said  to  his  disciple,  "behold  your  mother!"  And  from  that  hour  the  disciple  took  her  to  his  own  home.

   "JESUS  DIES  ON  THE  CROSS"

   (Reader  from  the  Anglican  Church)

It  was  now  about  the  sixth  hour,  and  there  was  darkness  over  the  whole  land  until  the  ninth  hour,  while  the  sun's  light  failed:  and  the  curtain  of  the  temple  was  torn  in  two.  Then  Jesus,  crying  with  a  loud  voice,  said,  "Father,  into  your  hands  I  commit  my  spirit!"  And  having  said  this  he  breathed  his  last.      (pause)  Now   when   the   centurion   saw   what   had   taken   place,   he   praised   God,   and   said,  "Certainly  this  man  was  innocent!"

Leader:       Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.    Leader:       Lord,  comfort  the  dying.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  be  with  us  in  the  darkness  of  death.  Response:     Christ,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  into  your  hands  we  commit  our  spirits.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:    Saviour  of  the  world,  you  have  redeemed  us  by  your    passion  and

cross  Response:     Save  us  and  help  us,  we  humbly  pray.        “WHEN  I  SURVEY  THE  WONDROUS  CROSS”         When  I  survey  the  wondrous  cross       on  which  the  Prince  of  glory  died,             my  richest  gain  I  count  but  loss,       and  pour  contempt  on  all  my  pride.               Forbid  it  Lord,  that  I  should  boast             save  in  the  death  of  Christ  my  God;       all  the  vain  things  that  charm  me  most;         I  sacrifice  them  to  his  blood.         See  from  his  head,  his  hands,  his  feet,       sorrow  and  love  flow  mingled  down;       did  e’er  such  love  and  sorrow  meet,       or  thorns  compose  so  rich  a  crown?         Were  the  whole  realm  of  nature  mine,       that  were  a  present  far  too  small,       love  so  amazing,  so  divine       demands  my  soul,  my  life,  my  all.

THE  FOURTEENTH  STATION

The  Leader  announces  the  station

"THE  BODY  OF  JESUS  IS  BURIED"

 (Reader  from  the  Catholic  Church)

They  took  the  body  of  Jesus  and  wrapped  it  with  spices  in  linen  cloths,  following  the  Jewish  burial  custom.  At  the  place  where  he  had  been  crucified  there  was  a  garden,  and   in  this  garden  a  new  tomb  in  which  nobody  had  yet  been  buried.  Since   it  was  the  Jewish  Day  of  Preparation  and  the  tomb  was  near  at  hand,  they  laid  Jesus  there.

—  A  Quiet  Moment  —    Leader:       Lord,  when  our  journey  in  this  life  is  over.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  when  we  behold  you  face  to  face.  Response:     Christ,  have  mercy.    Leader:       Lord,  when  we  adore  you  and  bless  you.  Response:     Lord,  have  mercy.        There  was  a  garden  where  Jesus  agonised  in  prayer  as  he  contemplated  his  death.  Now  his  mortal  remains  are  laid  to  rest  in  another  garden,  where  not  all  that  many  hours  later  he  will  call  "Mary",  to  the  bewildered  disciple  from  Magdala.

"WERE  YOU  THERE?"  cont.

Were  you  there  when  he  rose  from  out  the  tomb?  Were  you  there  when  he  rose  from  out  the  tomb?  O  sometimes  it  causes  me  to  tremble,  tremble,  tremble:  Were  you  there  when  he  rose  from  out  the  tomb?

Leader:     Lord,  by  your  holy  cross  you  have  redeemed  the  world.  Response:     We  adore  you,  Christ,  and  we  bless  you.

Leader:   God  our  Father,  we  pray  for  each  of  us  here;  that  we  may  be  lifted  from  anxieties,  guilt,  bewilderment,  pain,  or  fear,  and  by  the  mercy  of  Jesus  who  bore  our  sorrows  and  carried  our  shame,  find  peace  at  the  foot  of  the  holy  cross.

Response:   May  we  who  have  walked  with  him  in  his  hour  of  sorrow,  be  united

with  him  in  his  victory  and  in  his  glory,  now  and  forever.    Amen.

A  brief  message  is  delivered  by  one  of  the  clergy  of  the  local  churches.      (This  year  it  Greg  Stigter  from  New  Life  Baptist  Church  in  Dee  Why)  Followed  by  a  short  medley  by  the  Mt  Druitt  Indigenous  Children’s  Choir.    A  word  of  thanks  is  said,  and  the  people  are  then  sent  off  with  these  words:    Leader:     Let  us  proclaim  the  Good  News  throughout  the  land.    V.   The  Spirit  of  God  calls  us  to  bring  good  news  to  the  poor,  to  forgive  each  other’s

debts,  to  heal  the  broken  and  announce  freedom  to  all  who  are  sick  or  suffering.    R.   The   Spirit   is  with   us,   empowering   us   to   go   into   the  world   and   celebrate   the

Good  News,  In  the  name  of  Christ.      Amen
