Family obligations have required Walt Black-more to resign as Club Treasurer This is dues and budget season and someone needs to step up and assume this critical role

Also this is Mark Steelersquos last term as presi-dent Club members interested in becoming President should volunteer immediately to learn Club processes in order to assume leadership in Fall 2018

New Honeywell Corporate policy will no longer provide the Club with lists of new retirees and deceased employees While the Club is exploring dialogue with Company to mitigate the effects of these changes if these policies stay in force we will need all Club Members to inform us if you know of a new retiree or if you have learned of the passing of a former employee

Many of you have told us that the lsquoIn Memoriamrsquo is the first thing you read when the Newsletter arrives We now will need the assistance of all members to continue to accurately acknowledge the passing of former friends Club Members and employees Recording the passing of Club Members is also critical to Member descendants who may be applying for Scholarship awards

Highlights of September Meeting

Mark Steele President welcomed members and guests on Sept 6 2017 Frank Holman let the Pledge of Allegiance

Our featured speaker was Brian Seegers Chief Scientist Redline Turbine Systems

Brian personally started messing with jet en-gines in the 4

th grade ndash unsuccessfully

He explained that the history of jet propul-sion for model airplanes started in 1946 with the first pulsejets from Dynajet These valve-less engines were typically used on control line models flown on 70 ft steel lines with up to 100 lb thrust and achieving speeds up to 200 mph Dynajet lsquoclonesrsquo throughout the 1960s were produced in Japan Germany and the Czech Republic

In 1978 Brian set a goal to product the 1st

true turbojet for model aircraft His turbo-charger based engine ran in 1980 A tubular version with an annular burner produced 10 lb thrust in 1982

His final flight weight engine development began in 1986 and first flew in 1988 produc-ing 14 lb thrust and weighing 55 pounds in-stalled in the composite airplane shown

has a line for donating to the Honeywell amp Garrett retiree clubs scholarship foundation

for retireersquos families Because of your generosity the club was able to donate $704728

to the scholarship foundation through May this year Please consider donating to the

foundation

In addition to finances the club needs your help we are always looking for additional

volunteers to help lead in many ways Walt Blackmore has resigned as club treasurer We

want to thank Walt for his 5 years of service thanks Walt If you know someone you

think would be a candidate for the office or you would like to serve please let me or a

board member know In addition to the office of Treasurer we also are in need of a Vice-

club with death notices of retirees If you hear of the passing of one of our members

please let our newsletter editor Stu Mitnik know In addition to not providing death no-

tices the company will no longer provide names and addresses of recent retirees This

is going to make recruiting of new members much more difficult Again if you know of

someone who has retired recently please let Stu Mitnik or Diane Bennett know Your

club leadership is working with the other retirees clubs to bring this to the attention of

Calling all able bodied retirees In line with our ldquogiving backrdquo culture your Board has em-braced an opportunity to work with Honeywell Aerospace sup-porting Rebuilding Together Valley of the Sun (RTVOS) a charitable organization based in Tempe RTVOS and Aerospace are planning a working event this coming November It will be a community housingshelter event performing tasks like

maintenance and clean-up for folks who are unable to do so for themselves Its a great opportunity to support those in need in the valley while spending quality time with other retirees and active employees The specific tasks as well as locations and dates will be chosen by Honeywell and RTVOS There will be a variety of work available to accommodate different skill levels Tools and materials will be provided

Please place a marker in your calendar to help this noble effort to give back

Palo Verde Nuclear Power Station Tour

that is not located near a large body of water The power plant evaporates the water from the treated sewage from several nearby cities and towns to provide the cooling of the steam that it produces

Each tour is limited to 20 people and starts on site at 9am It starts with an overview briefing before a walking tour Lunch will be provided followed by a question and answer session to finish between 130pm and 200pm Considering the remote location we might want to organize ride share I will limit the tickets to 2 per member but can add additional dates if demand is there If you are unable to go check out the Energy Education Center Trip on another page

The main purpose for this facility is to serve as an emergency base of operations in the event of a crisis at the Palo

This is a unique opportunity to get up close to a nuclear reac-tor However this tour requires a lot of walking across a very large 4000 acre campus so you must be physically fit Palo Verde is located 45 miles West of Phoenix off the I10 and is the largest nuclear power plant in the United States serving about four million people

The Palo Verde Generating Station is located in the Arizona
