experience strong feelings (including feelings of loss, pain,

stress, anger, sadness, anxiety). The difference is that

they respond constructively to difficult events, rather than

being held prisoner by them.

The ability to manage one’s own feelings appropriately is

crucial to positive social and emotional developement and

to resilience. People who are resilient have a sense of

purpose, achievement and being ‘in charge’ of their lives.

Resilient people:• Manage their impulses and feelings positively

• Feel ‘connected’ to and help others; and ‘seek others

out’ in times of need.

• Understand themselves and assess, plan and solve

problems constructively.

• Want to maeke a useful contribution to society.

The eveidence shows that being creative, having a sense

of humour and having at least one positive relationship all

contributes to increased resilience.

Resilient people are able to ‘bounce back’ or ‘beat the

odds’ and to feel good about themselves, despite being

dealt a ‘poor hand’. This does not mean that resilient

people have an easy passage through life and that their

lives are stress free. Like others, they face difficult and

stressful times, and

Wellbeing describes an individual’s sense of how life

is going for them. Academics and philosophers have

spent lifetimes trying to define how best to define

‘wellbeing’ and the factors that determine the quality

of people’s lives. Many now agree that wellbeing

is a dynamic, ever-changing process involving an

interaction of an individual’s circumstances, their

activities and their personal resources.

Well-being is not simply feeling good about oneself,

and it is not something that can be ‘done to you’.

Research shows that an individual’s sense of wellbeing

is strongly associated with their level of self esteem,

their emotional functioning and their resilience.

The way in which people feel about their lives is

also influenced by their feelings of satisfaction about

their friendships, their family, their school and their

community. People with a positive sense of wellbeing

generally have a sense of purpose, competence and

autonomy, and engage in meaningful activities. Hyper-Localisation

dw-Eb aims to engage with young people to create

media products. Using digital technology we bring

children and young people, schools and community

organisations together to develop new ideas.

We aim to put young people ‘centre stage’ in the design

and delivery of services that affect them. We promote

local democracy and the active engagement of all

citizens and people.

If you would like to know more about our innovative

work in this area contact us via email at the back of this

document.

Recently , the UK has seen many launches of

online local media services that attempt to deliver

hyper-local content. However, traditional media

providers have experienced difficulty in adapting

high-cost models of delivery to a local areas. At the

same time, hyper -local agencies sometimes fail

to build a critical audience mass and to be able to

develop a sustainable business model.

w-Eb has a unique approach to toward the

development of hyper-local media that has young

people at the heart of the operation, with young

people delivering core messages for and by young

people.

• Build a permanent Web TV studio for the region, managed and driven by young people.

• Provide these facilities, building and promoting wellbeing, resilience and creating opportunities for young people to realise thier potential themselves.

• Encourage and help young people to serve their local community, helping other young people but also work inter-genrationally with the older community.

• Provide opportunities and addressing barriers to academic institutions through partnerships and joint projects.

We have started piloting digital and media training in schools in Northamptonshire, deploying what we consider to be a unique approach in working with young people and vulnerable children.

We place the young people at the heart of the planning, designing and creation of the project. We only train them how to use the equipment. They learn to work with professional equipment learning skills and technique that is transportable.
