MEN’S BASKETBALL Cleveland State continues its busy stretch to open the season when the Vikings travel to Robert Morris for two games in the NIT Season Tip-Off Consolation round. The Vikings play Alabama-Huntsville on Monday at 5:00 p.m. and RMU at 7:30 p.m. on Tues-day. CSU is 3-1 overall after winning two of three games last week. The Vikings earned a 79-73 overtime win over Bowling Green, but dropped a 77-47 decision at fifth-ranked Michigan in the Ann Arbor Region of the NIT Season Tip-Off. The Vikings rallied to earn a 67-55 win over Old Dominion on Saturday. Charlie Lee leads the team in scoring (13.3) and also tops the Horizon League with 6.0 assists per game. All five CSU starters are averaging double figures in scoring and the five starters have all scored in double figures in three of the four games this year. Tim Kamczyc had a career-high 21 points in the win over Bowling Green, while Marlin Mason and Lee both recorded their first career double-doubles against BGSU.

Men’s Swimming & Diving Captures Invite Title The Cleveland State men’s swimming and diving team will be off until fol-lowing Thanksgiving, when they will be heading to the AT@T Winter Nationals Championships in Austin, Texas November 29th through December 1st. The Vikings are coming off a big weekend this past weekend as they took home the team title at the inaugural Magnus Cup Invitational. Senior Berry Thompson and junior Al Shillito led the way for CSU at the invitational. Thompson was able to win all eight of his finals events, taking home five relay titles and three indi-vidual titles. Shillito also shined, setting school records in both the 100 backstroke (49.13), and 200 backstroke (1:47.04. Seven swimmers and one diver won events on the weekend to help the team to its first place finish.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING The Cleveland State women’s swimming and diving team will be off until following Thanksgiving, when they will be heading to the AT@T Winter Nationals Championships in Austin, Texas No-vember 29th through December 1st. Alexandra Johansson led the way for the women on the week-end; bringing home seven first place finishes on the weekend, includ-ing the school record in the 100 backstroke (55.67). Outside of the record 100 back she was a part of two winning relays and had four more first place individual finishes. Alice Sommerville also had an impressive weekend for CSU, with three first place finishes. As a group the Viking women brought home 10 first place finishes, three relays and seven individual events.

WRESTLING The Vikings’ wrestling team will be back on the mat this Tues-day as they get ready to take on John Carroll University at 7:00 p.m. on the road. CSU is coming off the Navy Classic this past weekend, an event that saw the team place four wrestlers in the top four of their respective weight classes. Matt Donohoe topped the group with a second place finish at 157 pounds, with Michael Carlone coming in third at 133 pounds for two top three finishes. Ben Willeford (125 pounds) and Riley Shaw (285 pounds) also finished fourth in their respective weight classes.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings will close out their four-game roadswing this weekend, traveling to the University of Nevada for the John Ascua-ga’s Nugget Classic. CSU will open the tournament with a 5:00 p.m. EST contest against the host Wolfpack on Friday, November 23, and will then take on either Santa Clara or Toledo on Saturday, Novem-ber 24. CSU enters the week with a 1-2 record on the young season, falling at Ohio (63-56) and at Illinois (83-64) last week. Shalonda Winton posted her second and third double-doubles of the season in both contests, putting up 24 points and 15 rebounds against the Bobcats and 24 points and 12 boards against the Illini. Imani Gordon tallied the first double-double of her career at Illinois, posting 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. On the season, Winton is averaging 23.3 points per game, while Cori Coleman is averaging 10.3 ppg. Winton also leads the team with 12.3 rebounds per contest, while Gordon is averaging 8.7 rpg. As a team, CSU has averaged 60.0 points per contest through the first two weeks along with 39.0 rebounds.

MEN’S SOCCER The men’s soccer team concluded its season this past Thurs-day, falling 2-1 to Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Vikings, who made the tournament for the first time since 1980, fell down early to the Spartans 2-0 in the first half. Despite that deficit the team continued to battle, scoring a goal by Cristian Arboleda off a pass from Alfonso Sandoval to cut the deficit in half in the 87th minute. Even with the late goal they were unable to bring it back even in the second session. CSU concludes its season with an 11-6-3 overall record, and as the Horizon League Tournament champions.

VOLLEYBALL After capturing their second Horizon League Tournament title, the Vikings will now have to wait until this Sunday (Nov. 25) to find out who they will face in the first round of the NCAA Tour-nament. The NCAA Selection Show is set for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 25) and can be seen live on ESPNU. After earning the No. 1 seed in this year’s tournament, the Vi-kings defeated Loyola (3-0) in the semifinals and came from behind to defeat UIC (3-1) in the championship match. CSU has now won 13-straight matches, and stands at 23-6 on the season. Kara Koch, who posted 33 kills (4.71 kps) and 23 digs (3.28 dps) during the championship, was named the Tournament MVP, while Jackie Dab-belt and Dayna Roberts also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. This season marks the second time that CSU has claimed the Horizon League Tournament title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, also doing so during 2007. Last Sunday’s champion-ship match appearance marked the fifth time in the last six seasons that the Vikings have made it that far, as they now hold an all-time record of 13-11 in league tournament play.
