    Higher Education Institution (SQIHEI)This questionnaire consisted of 2 parts: Part I has 10 items which asked information on the profile

    of the universities

    Part II is composed of 3 categories: A- internationalization of mission statements, goals, objectives

    and policies. It has subsidiary questions soliciting perception onthe attainment of administrators on the internationalizationgoals.

    B- is a 20-item survey w/c asked about management and

    programs ; C- dwell with factors that hinder internationalization of the

    Profile of Respondent-UniversitiesSchools Descriptions

    University of Sto Tomas It was established in 1611 as a college for training of

    future priests. It was in 1645 when it was elevated to

    college.

    Ateneo De Manila University Started in 1859 with the Jesuits. It received its

    approval to offer a five-year program in 1865. It is

    presently a COE in various disciplines.

    University of the Philippines UP was established in 1908 by Act No 1870. It is a top-

    ranking Phil University in various International

    University Ranking Surveys.

    De La Salle University DLSU started in 1911 and it was in 1917 when its was

    authorize to offer an Associate in Arts. It is COE in

    various disciplines.

    University of Asia and the Pacific UAP was formerly the Center of Research and

    Communication and became a university in 1995

    come from public university

    100% of Administrators have been abroad for

    visits; 55.6% obtained their degrees abroad

    and 22.4% have local degrees

    A majority of faculty have visited foreign

    countries for studies and training (68.8

    Organizational Structure for

    Internationalization

    Four out of five universities have offices thatpromote internationalization. The main function of the International Linkages Office

    was to promote international linkages and networking

    among universities in the Asia Pacific region. Theoffice is usually composed of 3 to 5 persons with aDirector leading the office.

    The other university tasked the VP for AcademicAffairs to do linkages, partnership, andnetworking.

    Historical Basis of Internationalization in the

    Internationalization of HEI is a complex. It doesnot happen overnight, it is a process ofcontinuously integrating broad range ofinternational activities in the universities.

    Four out five have advanced internationalizationactivities, policies and programs in the late 80s.

    The primary reason for internationalization was

    the desire to be responsive to the needs of theemerging global society.
