Among the many items on our agenda, the board spent considerable time discussing the Corona virus and the potential impact the virus, and the precautions that are being put in place, could have on our ride season. The Brighton Springs Ride has already been cancelled because the State of Michigan is currently prohibiting any public events on state owned land. That ban is in place until mid-April and could tentatively be extended if the situation does not improve soon. Because of the uncertainty involved, the Board would like to reassure all RM’s that we will consider these circumstances should a ride have to cancel but would like to reschedule at a later date. Any rescheduling of canceled rides will require the cooperation of all ride managers in regards to exceptions that may need to be made to our existing rules and guidelines governing the sanctioning/rescheduling of rides. The Corvid-19 virus has created an unprecedented situation for everyone. The uncertainty of the situation makes it very difficult to predict how long or how much work we will need to do or adjustments we may need to make, but the Board is committed to supporting rides, their managers and riders. It will take the cooperation, patience and perseverance of all our members to deal with whatever we are confronted. Until we know what that is exactly, please take the necessary precautions to protect yourselves and your loved ones. Lastly, I’d like to remind everyone about the procedures to follow if you need to cancel a ride. Ride managers should report the cancellation to the UMECRA President ([email protected]), Sanctioning Coordinator ([email protected]), and Secretary ([email protected]) as soon as possible. Official cancelations will be forwarded to the newsletter and posted to the UMECRA web-site. Posting that a ride has been canceled on social media, i.e. Facebook, is not an official cancelation. 1000 Mile Horse Information Update
Your Attention Requested – there is a deadline
Robin Schadt and Nicole Mauser-Storer have been working to consolidate the 1000 mile horse records into one
source and get the information all online. This has been a difficult process as records over the years have been
stored in a variety of ways and methods. You will have until the end of the 2020 ride season to take a look at any
1000 mile horse records for your horses and make a specific set of updates. When this ride season ends, anything
in the records is final.
Keep in mind, that all ride records are final 30 days after they are published and ride season records for all years
are final, so we are not updating individual ride records. We will not entertain any requests for “my results for ‘fill
in the blank ride’ are incorrect” as those are final and were 30 days after they were published.
What we do need your help with is looking at the records we have and letting us know if there is data missing.
What type of corrections will be considered? If you look at the records for “Blaze” and see that all of 2013 (as an
example) is missing you will be required to provide proof (UMECRA web records, AERC web records, COMP sheets,
or other appropriate pieces) to add that ride season to the horse records. Evidence is needed that it was the

correct horse, that the miles were a UMECRA ride, that the rider was at the time a UMECRA member and all the
usual requirements for mileage to count in the 1000 mile horse program.
We have already made some corrections and updates in getting the information online. Here is what has been
done, followed by a description of how to access the records and check what is reporting for your horses.
The information was pulled from the current horse list and from the website where all horse milestones are listed
going back to 1979, with a few years that are unavailable. The horse mileage in the current records was compared
to the web milestones. Every horse that has ever been awarded a milestone is now in the database. Some we
were able to obtain AERC numbers for even though they haven’t competed in years, and other were too hard to
determine. In those cases the horse has been assigned a Legacy number and the horse number starts with “L”.
Where it was possible to determine annual mileage each horse has their season miles broken out by year. Where
it was not possible, a correction year of year “0” (zero) is added into the horse record. If we have records for
“Blaze” receiving a 6000 mile award plaque from UMECRA but had no annual records we could find, “Blaze” has a
1000 mile history of 6000 miles in year Zero. If we were able to make an educated guess on the AERC number
for “Blaze” that is used, otherwise “Blaze” was assigned an “L” horse number.
Where do you find the information and who do you contact with questions? For questions or updates, please
provide THOROUGH notes describing what year(s) are missing, why you believe they should be counted and as
much as possible a breakout of COMP, LD and END miles for each year in question. The notes can be sent to Robin

Where do you find the information?
1) From the UMECRA website – navigate to “Horse Number” under the Results tab
2) Put in any part of your horse’s name or AERC/UMECRA number and submit

3) When you find your horse, if there is a “YES” under 1000 Mile Nominated, your horse is part of the
program. Click on the “Yes” to be taken to the horse records
4) At that point you will see the by year records for the selected horse and the grand total of miles
5) Here is an example of a horse that we knew received a 6000 mile plaque, but could not find the
discrepancy and added a Year 0
6) Or a horse that had no annual breakouts that were easy to find, but we knew received a 2000 mile
award

7) And a horse that had no discernable AERC record and received a Legacy horse number, but we did
have years of ride history -

Rider and Horse Numbers are Important
UMECRA tracks the points and mileage for horses and riders via individual numbers. Each person is assigned a
number when you become a member for the first time, and this becomes your permanent number. If you also
have an AERC number, we ask that you please check your online record and if we don’t have that on file please
notify either Robin Schadt or Nicole Mauser-Storer. If both numbers are on record you can register at any
UMECRA ride using either your AERC or your UMECRA rider number, the two will cross reference and you will
always receive points and credit for your ride. To find the information please look at UMECRA.com, hover over the
“Results” button and select “Rider Numbers”. From there enter any part of your first or last name to search and
see what we have on file – including your membership date for the current ride season.
Horse numbers are also critical. There are many people in the history of UMECRA who have ridden “Spot” or
“Blaze” and to make sure your “Spot” gets proper credit for miles the only way to do that is for each horse to have
a number. If your horse has an AERC number UMECRA uses that number so you only have to remember one
number, but you do have to tell us that your horse has a number. We do not automatically receive information
from AERC. If you don’t have an AERC number for your horse we will assign a UMECRA number, you just ask either
Robin Schadt or Nicole Mauser-Storer. If you have a UMECRA number and later get an AERC number, much like
with the rider numbers we add the AERC number to the horse’s record and you can then enter using either number
and your horse gets credit for all points and miles, but you have to tell us what that number is, we do not have a
direct data connection to AERC. To see the information we have on file look at UMECRA.com, hover over the
“Results” button and select “Horse Numbers”. From there search on any part of the horse’s name and see what
comes up.
If you look at the points standings or a set of ride results all horse and rider names are links to that individual’s
history from what could be made electronically available. If you find your name in the points standings and the
horse name is blank that means we don’t have a horse number assigned for you.
