We Stand Together

Or We Fall Apart!

Page 3: Unity is the Key!

* * 0 Unity is the

“Key!” 1 Cor 1:9-10 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Now I

plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak

the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same

mind and in the same judgment.

* * 0 We have come a long ways in

our study of fellowship!●No man is an island!●Becoming a friend of God!●Walking with God!●Togetherness!●The danger of ungodly fellowship!●Denoted to fellowship!●Restoring the broken bonds of

fellowship!●What hinders fellowship!

* * 0 The Overall Theme of 1st

Corinthians “Unity!”●More than anything Paul is seeking to

bring this congregation “back together!”–1 Cor. 1:10-13–1 Cor. 3:1-9–1 Cor. 4:6-7–1 Cor. 6:1-8–1 Cor. 8:1-13–1 Cor. 12-14●More than anything else, “we need to

learn to work together!”

Page 6: Unity is the Key!

* * 0 Paul’s plan for this is laid out

in the 1st chapter!(1 Cor. 1:9-13)

●In our lesson we want to look at each step to this and how it works and why it is needed!●When we leave, we will have the

tools we need to succeed in unity which brings about fellowship!●An example of how this all works

is found in (Gen. 11:1-9) They had 2 of 3 right!

Page 7: Unity is the Key!

* * 0 I. One Mouth!

“That you all speak the same thing!”●Gen. 11:1 Now the whole earth had one

language and one speech.–Today there are over 5,000!●Gen. 11:6-8 And the LORD said, "Indeed

the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.

* * 0 Communication is

“needed!”Good communication is needed in every relationship!

●This is true in our homes, at work and in congregations!–We need to listen and learn from one

another!–We need to learn to listen to

understand and not just to answer!●We will never have the

fellowship God desires until we learn to communicate!

* * 0 II. One Mind!

“But that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the

same judgment.!”●Would you say that most Christians sound alike or different? Would you say that most Christians think alike or different?–Now what should we be able to say?●It is interesting that between chapter

1 & 3 both on the need to overcome division we find this verse!–1 Cor 2:16 For "who has known the

mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Page 10: Unity is the Key!

* * 0 The Mind of Christ!

This should always be the goal!●Php 2:2-5 fulfill my joy by being

like- minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.

* * 0 III. One Master!

1 Cor 1:12 Now I say this, that each of you says, "I am of Paul," or "I am of

Apollos," or "I am of Cephas," or "I am of Christ."●Back to the story of the Tower of

Babel!–They had 2 out of 3 of these right!

●Right/One mouth!●Right/One mind!●Wrong/One master!●They had taken God off the throne and

replaced Him with “self!”–God was removed from the plan!

Page 12: Unity is the Key!

* * 0 Dividing on men, rather than

uniting on God!●Each one of these men were important,

but God must always be most important!–Paul–Apollos–Cephas/Peter–Christ●Paul wants them to ask, which one of

these died for you & can save you?–1 Cor 1:13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul

crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Page 13: Unity is the Key!

* * 0 Conclusion:

●It is God’s desire that His people will be one! ●For us to truly enjoy the

fellowship of God then we need to be united!●Have you come to be united

with Christ? Have you come to be forgiven & free?●Are we learning to live with, one

mouth, one mind and one Master?
