Club Ethos The Club is about providing a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all members, particularly children to play Rugby Union.

All players are to be given approximately equal game time, subject to their reasonable commitment to attending training.

Goals – Coaches

Understanding What Kids Want!

All kids are different and play sport for a variety of reasons. The most common reasons are

1. it’s fun,

2. it’s with friends,

3. it makes them feel good

4. it allows them to learn new skills.

Create an atmosphere at training that is enjoyable, that requires kids to be active, and that is a genuine learning experience

Roles – Coaches

Plan and organise activities that allow kids to progress through a series of skills, in an enjoyable way.

Coaching kids should involve a lot of fun experiences that focus on co-operation, teamwork and fair play.

Communicate positively with players, and understand how important praise and encouragement is to a player’s development.

Responsibilities – Coaches Ensure that all players and parents are aware of Code of

Ethnics.

Concussion. If a sports trainer/medic advises that a player has been concussed, the player MUST see a doctor and obtain a medical certificate clearing the player to play.

Accreditation – Coaches

Ensure you are up to date with your Coaching & Smart Rugby accreditation

Smart Rugby* course is mandatory for all coaches –

FREE – 2.5 hours. *renew every 2 years

Coaching Kids Rugby – recommended for all coaches –

$40 – 3 hours (includes Smart Rugby accreditation).

Responsibilities – Managers Read and sign “Coaches & Team Management

Agreement Form”.

Attend training nights, collect any club information before the end of training and distribute.

Prepare a jersey-washing roster/orange roster.

Ensure the team has a qualified referee for home matches.

Ensure the team has an assistant referee (note: U6-U9 does not require accreditation).

and the field is set up correctly, also make sure that first aid/medical facilities are readily available.

Circulate details of coach, manager, other players and relevant general information to parents.

Ensure that all players are correctly registered with the Club.

Responsibilities – Managers

Collect TEAM SHEETS each week (from office). Keep a record of the score of the game and at the end, have the opposing manager sign off on the team sheet. (include referee and assistant referees details)

Submit completed team sheets to silver box located outside Tiger Shop at the conclusion of every match; for away matches team sheets must be in the box by 3pm Sunday.

Team Sheets need to be submitted for all games including forfeits, wash out, cancelled, etc.

Accreditation – Referees

Refereeing Kids rugby course (includes Smart Rugby accreditation) is required for all referees–

FREE – 3 hours.

Referees & Spectator Behaviour

• Referees (volunteers) are not to be screamed at or abused by

anyone.

• Rugby Fields are the place for encouraging comments & applause.

• Negative comments towards referees, players or opposition will not

be tolerated.

• Nobody should enter the field of play EVER!!! (Authorised officials excepted.)

• Nobody should approach the referee during or after the game, except

to shake hand or offer thanks.

• If you feel that there is a safety issue, have the team official approach

the Club Official who if necessary may approach the referee;

generally at the half time break or after the game.

TryRugby Kids Pathway Laws are NOT the same as a Test Match or Super Rugby

Following the introduction of TryRugby Kids Pathway Laws in 2011, there were some minor Law modifications.

No. of Players on the field and Law applications that promote safety, attacking play, and age appropriate skill acquisition all remain the same.

Each age group has laws that develop players through the pathway.

Recap for U 6 – U9 in 2012 U6 to U12 Equal number of players on each team. If

one team is short, teams MUST share players to reach maximum number of equal players. Unlimited rolling substitutions.

No Quick Line outs permitted – no lifting.

No drop or penalty goals.

Defending scrum-half can’t go past midline and cannot leave scrum.

Slinging tackles, fending to the head and squeeze ball – illegal.

Yellow card = 5 minutes

Have Fields set up correctly: Pads, Ropes, Cones etc (Expect Audit by BJRU. Fines apply)

Wet Weather: check club website for both Game Day and Training nights.

Managers need to ensure that the coach has the team waiting to go on at the appointed time. This means checking with the Field Marshall that the game prior should finish on time.

Referee is obligated to finish the game ON TIME regardless of when the game commenced.

WHO IS ALLOWED INSIDE THE BARRIER (Rule 6.7.6)

Entry into the playing enclosure must be restricted by a fence, barricade or rope, a minimum of five (5) metres from the playing perimeter; this includes the dead ball line.

Persons authorised to enter the playing enclosure for all age groups are:

(i) The Club Official

(ii) Field Marshall

(iii) Medical Person/s /Trainer (Keeling or seated)

(iv) Teams x 2, Reserve Players behind the barrier

(v) Referee

(vi) Fourth Referee (if appointed)

(vii) Assistant Referees x 2

NOTE: NONE OF THE ABOVE PERSONS ARE TO BARRACK OR

COACH FROM INSIDE THE BARRIER.
