For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesian 2:8-10 Most of us have little trouble identifying what it is we are saved FROM. (The power of sin in our lives, the threat of eternal punishment, etc.) However fewer are confident identifying what we are saved FOR. The answer is in the passage above. SJCS is much more than a private school oering excellent education within a Christian environment. Our mission is to train up agents of transformation seeking to reclaim all of creation and culture for our Lord, who is the ruler of heaven and earth. Those “good works” referred to in the passage are what we are training our children to do! This Easter, celebrate our freedom from sin, but also celebrate the home-church-school connection that enables our children to act on those works “which God has prepared in advance for us to do.” Happy Easter! Tiger Stripes Reflections on Who We Are by: Bart Den BoerEaster. It’s about us. It’s about SJCS.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesian 2:8-10

Most of us have little trouble identifying what it is we are saved FROM. (The power of sin in our lives, the threat of eternal punishment, etc.) However fewer are confident identifying what we are saved FOR. The answer is in the passage above.

SJCS is much more than a private school offering excellent education within a Christian environment. Our mission is to train up agents of transformation seeking to reclaim all of creation and culture for our Lord, who is the ruler of heaven and earth. Those “good works” referred to in the passage are what we are training our children to do! This Easter, celebrate our freedom from sin, but also celebrate the home-church-school connection that enables our children to act on those works “which God has prepared in advance for us to do.”

Happy Easter!

Tiger Cubs|Preschool Info ArticlePotty Training:When should I start toilet training my child?

Your child must be both physically and emotionally ready for toilet training. Most children are ready to start when they are between 22 and 30 months of age, but every child is different. Toilet training usually becomes a long and frustrating process if you try to start it before your child is ready.

Before children can use the toilet, they must be able to control their bowel and bladder muscles. Some signs of this control are having bowel movements around the same time each day, not having bowel movements at night, and having a dry diaper after a nap or for at least 2 hours at a time. Children must also be able to climb, talk, remove clothing, and have mastered other basic motor skills before they can use the toilet by themselves.

Most children are physically ready to toilet train before they are emotionally ready. Your child must want to use the toilet and be willing to cooperate with you. He or she may even talk about being a "big boy" or "big girl" and wearing underpants rather than diapers. Training generally does not go well if your child is in the stage where "no" is his or her automatic response to every request.

Teacher Tales Spotlight on Lego Robotics! Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School.

The first year of SJCS Lego robotics wrapped up last week Wednesday. The program got it’s start in the spring of 2014, when our Lego sets were generously donated at last year's auction.

We had two sessions of Lego WeDo - one in the summer and one in the fall of 2014. The students had a lot of fun building different robots, while at the same time learning how to make them move and make sounds.

We ended the school year with a session using Lego Mindstorms EV3 sets. Fifth through eighth grade students worked in teams to build motorized robots and program them to do a given task. They experienced hands-on, cause-and-effect learning as they explored a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities while developing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students practiced higher-level thinking as they planned, created and evaluated their projects, adapting programming as needed.

As you can see, we put the funds we received at last year’s auction to good use! In April, look for more information to come out about our summer robotics sessions!
