Harman Expands with Service Centre in New DelhiHarman Professional in India

PVR buysCinemax for 395 cr, Becomes

India's LargestMultiplex Chain

Promoters of Cinemax have signed a

pact to sell their entire 69.27 percent

stake to PVR for a consideration for

395 crore or 203.65 per share,

both the companies informed the

stock exchanges.

The Board also approved purchase of

up to 26 percent stake of Cinemax

India from the public shareholders

pursuant to an open offer under the

SEBI (Substantial Acquisition of Shares

and Takeovers) Regulations, 2011.

Reacting to the news, shares of

Cinemax rose 5 percent to 184.25

and those of PVR jumped 14 percent

to more than 11 percent to 263.

However, previous media reports had

pegged the deal at 500 crore.

PVR will make the acquisition

through Cine Hospitality Private Ltd,

a wholly owned subsidiary of the

company.

PVR will also make an open offer to

the shareholders of Cinemax to buy

up to 26 percent more, PVR said in its

notice. The share purchase would

make PVR India's largest multiplex.

PVR currently has around 210 screens.

Acquiring Cinemax, which operates

39 properties, with 138 screens, will

help PVR scale up and become the

largest multiplex company in India.

According to a CNBC-TV18 report,

even Imax is looking to expand its

existing contract with PVR. Imax

hopes to open theatres in alliance

with PVR in Mumbai and Delhi soon,

and stands to benefit from the PVR-

Cinemax deal too.


The Hobbit's Indian ConnectionPeter Jackson's The Hobbit: An

Unexpected Journey, which opened

in cinemas on Dec 14th, has already

made cinematic history. It is the first

feature film to be shot at 48 frames/

second, double the usual 24 frames/

second that is traditionally used for

all cinema. And to enable the

audiences relish the cinematic

brilliance of the new age High Frame

Rate technology, they have tied up

with Qube Cinema, the US subsidiary

of India's Chennai based digital

cinema rollout company, Real Image

Media Technologies.

Empire Cinema, Leicester Square on

premiered in high frame rate 3D on

dual-projectors. While only a small

number of screens worldwide and

about a dozen screens in India are

releasing The Hobbit in the new 48

frames per second format currently,

many more are expected to convert

in time for the next two parts of The

Hobbit and for James Cameron's

Avatar 2 sequel.

Qube Cinema XP-I Server and Xi 4KIntegrated Media Block (IMB) AchieveDCI Compliance

Qube Cinema announced that it's

XP-I digital cinema server and Xi 4K

Integrated Media Block (IMB) have

passed the DCI Compliance Test Plan

(CTP). The high performance, security

and reliability of the XP-I and Xi IMB

have been confirmed by these tests.

This server-IMB combination

accommodates 4K resolution and is

the ultimate setup for high frame

rate (HFR) exhibition, making it

essential for today's digital cinema.

The DCI compliance testing was

conducted by CineCert. To pass the

CTP, the Qube XP-I streamed 2K and

4K DCP content to the Xi IMB

embedded in a Barco DP4K-32B DCI-

compliant projector. The Qube XP-I

server now joins the Qube XP-D

server, which achieved DCI

certification earlier in 2012.

that exhibitors have come to expect

up to 240 fps (120 fps per eye). The

XP-I streams data through a dual

Gigabit Ethernet interface to the

Ethernet-based Xi 4K IMB, ensuring

that there is no limitation on the

distance between the server and

projector. The Xi 4K IMB is installed in

numerous commercial locations

worldwide with DLP Cinema

projectors from all of the TI OEMs

and supports HD, 2K, 4K and 3D

content in DCI-compliant formats.

The modularized third-generation

Qube XP software gives a common

user experience for setup, operation

and maintenance of both the XP-I

and XP-D servers. This allows XP-D

users to upgrade easily to the XP-I

and Xi IMB to accommodate 4K

resolution and higher frame rates.

With their high bit rate throughput

and unique ability to work

transparently with dual projectors,

the XP-I server and Xi 4K IMB are also

ideal for giant screen exhibition.

Galalite Screens extends global reach

with expansion of production plant

in Germany

Galalite Screens manufacturers of

cinema screens, announced its plans

to expand operations in Germany.

The investments will double Galalite's

capacity for making Prism3D and

Digilite screens. The facility in

Germany will be fully operational by

mid-2013.

The facility will allow Galalite screens

to serve better local demand for

good quality screens by providing

shorter lead times for customers in

nearby states as well as lower the cost

of shipping screens from factory to

final location.

arriving in cinemas worldwide, orders

for our screens have risen

significantly," says Shabbir

Subhash Ghai'sNew Multiplex inGulbarga

Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts Ltd has

started a new multiplex in Gulbarga

under the brand name Mukta A2

Cinemas. The multiplex opened with

Salman Khan's film Dabangg 2 on

December 22.

The three-screen multiplex has 1252

seats and a 2K Digital with 3D

projection system which is first of its

kind in Gulberga. It also boasts of hi-

tech dolby digital surround sound.

After Gulberga, Mukta Arts Limited is

all set to launch another multiplex in

Vishakhapatnam, Sangli, Raipur,

Aurangabad and Bhopal.

Negotiations are also going on for

locations such as Mumbai, Thane,

Panvel and Gurgaon. This will add

around 30 screens to the existing 15

screens.

Kolkata was organized with an

objective to equip the professionals

Harman's cinema audio systems

consisting of JBL Screenarray &

Crown Dsi amplification . The

training program conducted by

Samir Mistry - Application Engineer

for Harman Cinema Systems India,

provided the dealers, technical

directors, System integrators, cinema

owners of leading cinemas, best

practices and technical skills, with the

nuances and complete overview on

the functioning, features, various

scenarios, troubleshooting and best

practice sharing. All these

systems were addressed as per

individual needs and situations in

cinema houses, with references to

PVR launched its five screen

multiplex at the Empress Mall, near

Gandhi Lake, Nagpur. With this

launch in Nagpur, PVR has 39 screens

and eight multiplexes in five key

cities of Maharashtra including four

in Mumbai, one in Latur, one in

Aurangabad and one in Nanded.

The multiplex is spread across an area

of 50,000 sq. ft. with a capacity of

1234 seats providing an exceptional

digital movie experience to the

cinegoers of the city at a pricing

ranging from Rs 70 - Rs 180. With the

launch in Nagpur, PVR stands at 184

screens in 42 cinemas in 13 states & 25

cities across India.

Nagpur, being the largest metropolis

of the state, comprises of a

commercially active population.

Keeping this in mind, PVR multiplex

has been designed in the most chic

and urban fashion. The multiplex

boasts of crushed paper style ceiling

and spacious leg space width seats. A

specialised menu has been designed

according to the taste preference of

people in Nagpur. The outsourced

kiosk will offer a variety of street food

like Chaat - bhelpuri, panipuri, sev

puri, dahi puri, papdi chaat and

Chinese bhel.

Barfi. The news is that music director

Pritam has now been nominated for

the music of the film at the

prestigious Asia Pacific Film Festival

to be held in Macau. Readers may

note that, he is the only Indian

musician to be nominated at the

award ceremony that will be held

during the course of the festival.

For starters, The Asia Pacific Film

Festival is an event hosted annually

in different Asian Cities by the Board

of Directors of the Federation of

Motion Picture Producers in Asia-

Pacific. This year, the festival will be

held in Macau.
