PROGRAMSThis week's Thursday luncheon speaker will be Phillip Barnes

of the Mary Street Mission, brought to us by March Programs Chairman, Mary Barnes. Also, Robbie Winn will introduce our March Youth of the Month winner. On Wednesday, March 20, members who have signed up to help, will attend and interview Seniors at the WCHS Mock Interview program.

Next week, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. our Okefenokee Agricul-tural Fair Board Meeting will be held. Later at 11:30 a.m., our Waycross Exchange Club Board meeting will be led by Presi-dent Chris Tatum. Our 12:30 p.m. luncheon program speaker will be ASAC Jason Seachrist, GBI Special Agent (Assistant Special Agent in Charge) at the Georgia Bureau of Investiga-tion, Investigative Division, Region 4.

EXCHANGE NEWSPresident Chris Tatum reminds members who have a health

danger/issue with having a magnetic name tag, to sign Bill Deason's sign-up list to get an alternative name tag, since all name tags are to be so upgraded with magnet after March 28th. He said, he is proud of the club's large turnout at the Public Safety Award Banquet recognizing public safety offi-cers of the year for exceptional duty. Nominations for election of our club officers 2019-2020 are due by March 28th. Please submit written request for consideration of election, to either President Chris, Tony Tanner, Harbin Farr or Roger Collins by March 28th. All club positions are eligible to be pursued for election: President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Board Mem-bers for one-year and two-years.

The board will vote on a new member application at the March 28th Board Meeting. Good News!

WARE COUNTY MIDDLE - WACONAROBOTICS TEAM

Mary Barnes, March Programs Chairman introduced Carl Franz who introduced the Wacona Elementary-Ware County Middle School Robotic Team speakers and participating students as follows:Ware County Middle School & Wacona Elementary Robotic Team: Melissa Lee | 6th Grade Teacher, Robotic Coach | Wacona Middle Mindy Pearson | 4th Grade Teacher | Wacona Elementary; Lacey Gruver | 4th Grade Teacher | Wacona Elementary; George Gruver | Volunteer, Robotics Coach;

Millie Price | STEM Instructional SupportStudents from Wacona Elementary & — Waycross Middle: Ashlyn Jacobs Jayce Pearson Isaac Musgrove Lucas Howard Maddox Gruver Cody Gay Conner Chapman Mason Tyre

Both schools' students work together as a team, some say like a SWAT Team instead of a STEM Team! The Team has won twelve VEX IQ Challenge Awards after only four years of building and practicing with the robots they have built. A few other counties have begun the robotic program, too. STEM means briefly "innovation". They not only "know" but they do with what they know " given the challenge. VEX Robotics Competition is a robotics competition for elementary through university students. It is a subset of VEX Robotics, which is a subset of Innovation First International. Three divisions of VEX are for: VEX EDR middle and high school students, VEX U is for university students, VEX IQ is for elementary and middle school students. Students must design, build, program, and drive a robot to complete a challenge as best they can. The VEX robotics World Championship is held in Louisville, Ken-

tucky in mid April each year. Carl Franz is a mentor to our lo-cal Robotics program as well as George Gruver and the above school teachers. They came in 3rd in World Championship! This is a very stimulative school course for students which can lead them to jobs and other spin-offs for students after gradu-ation. This is a very informative and interesting program that we should support, Mary and Carl.

GEORGIA BAPTIST CHILDREN'S HOME AND FAMILY MINISTRY

Mary Barnes introduced Steve Bené, Activity Director of the Ministry who stepped in for Executive Director Michael Shuman. Mr. Bené plans activities for the residents in the care of Georgia Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministry. He coordinates activities with churches and organizations that want to minister to their residents. He speaks at churches and organizations related to this type of ministry for their residents. He also speaks to them about how to partner with the master ministry headquarters. Their goal is to show love of Jesus Christ.

This training allows them to act as parents who couldn't or wouldn't do, like tutoring, living skills, personal hygiene,

coping skills, and more. "Life is tough and they minister to their spiritual needs as well. They have 60-65 kids, many who give their lives to Jesus Christ. Groups come to minister many times a year. DFACS recommends many kids, parents, grand-parents to be helped. They have helped 200 kids through the program. Kids go back to the Judge and go back to home where they may get private counseling and a program to work with. Seventeen boys are in the program. They need financial support, but more so, prayer support.

Average cost is $4,000 to $5,000/month per person. Provides staff, food, light bills with DFACS covering 70% of cost. They have $1.63 million budget, 15 passenger vans, six cottages and maintain cost! Great program, Mary.
