Director’s Message
Happy February, Members!
It is with great joy that we get to announce that Mark Stevenz, Elvis Tribute Artist, is coming back (this time all the way from Mexico!) to entertain us at our Annual Sweet Hearts Celebration! This event includes a wonderful spaghetti dinner, a live auction, raffle prizes, and more fun than you’ll know what to do with! Fundraising is a necessity for our Center, and we’re grateful for the way our membership contributes and supports each of these events. Your generosity means so very much to those we serve. Overall our services are experiencing a steady increase. We are serving more meals currently at the Center than any time since it’s opening 1981, therefore your generosity is reaching the lives of more people in need than ever before. We are surely better together, and it’s apparent we need one another to provide the best outreach to our community! Thank you for your contributions!
As always, we have a calendar full of fun outings, events, and presentations, so be sure to save the dates for the ones that interest you the most!
See you at the Center! Cecily Rose Director

From Foot Clinic:
It is with deep regret that I have to inform you, we will no longer
be able to provide Foot and Nail Clinics. Due to unforeseen
circumstances, we no longer have the staff to provide service at
any clinics. Going forward, if a client needs foot care we will
only be able to provide this service by private appointment.
Private appointments need to be made with our office and they will schedule
a nurse to come to the individual’s residence. We are sorry
that this will cause issues for everyone.
At this time, ALL appointments in the future are cancelled.
We will do our best to find a replacement for our Center. We
have a few calls out and hope to get our Foot Clinic back up and running
soon! We apologize for the inconvenience!
Painting with Pauline is back on the schedule! Painting class is held on Mondays, and there is a fee depending on what you plan to do. Swing by the Center Monday’s at 10am-2pm and chat with Pauline!
We need outing ideas! Please bring by any outing suggestions

from you!

Metro HomeShare: Metro HomeShare is one of seven community ministries of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon. We are a shared housing program that supports homeowners to stabilize and retain their housing, while offering access to affordable rent or services to indi-viduals in need of housing. In a home share arrangement, we work with Home Providers (homeowners) to identify their needs, which may include financial burdens, loneliness, or inability to live alone and complete everyday tasks. We also work with Home Seekers (renters) who may be unable to qualify for traditional affordable housing options, facing homelessness, and cannot afford market-rate rents. We then facili-tate the matching process until a homeshare agreement has been made. Additionally, we offer case management services to support both parties for up to 2 years once a match has been made. (971) 271-5195 [email protected] metrohomeshare.org
72 Year Old Grandmother Becomes Author of Children’s Book
Patricia Torsen [left], great-grandmother to 5, has just published her first children’s book! Written while she was working in a sawmill, she was in-spired by her surroundings and the animals she came in contact with. Using family members’ names, she was inspired to write about what she saw and did. From that episode in her life came this touching story of a bird family and friends, and how they found a home. The story, “The Wren Nest”, is meant for children ages 3-10, however adults are finding this adorable story of wildlife and compassion, and lives or birds and the people around them. The book comes in Hardbound for $25.95, and soft cover for $16.59. It’s available in E-book for $3.99 on Amazon, and Barnes & Noble websites. Patricia Torsen has an author page on Facebook. If you have any questions or would like more information, you can also write her at Patricia Torsen, PO Box 577, Molalla, OR 97038

Lunch and Learn! Gluten Talk Not Just a Fad for the Kids:
You’ve likely seen the word all over the supermarket, products claiming

it. For some reason, the grandkids can’t eat anything at your house anymore.
What’s going on? You grew up on this stuff, so what changed? Join
Krysti Slonaker in a discussion on what Gluten is, and why it can be harmful
to some.

Cooking with Lard I can cook in lard again?
It seems like every time we turn around, butter is good, butter is bad, lard is good,
lard is bad; eat this, don’t eat that. Come learn about what oils you really should
and shouldn’t be cooking in, and what smoke point has to do with
cooking temperature!

Sudoku
The classic Sudoku game involves a grid of 81 squares. The grid is divided into nine blocks, each containing nine
squares. The rules of the game are simple: each of the nine blocks has to contain all the
numbers 1-9 within its squares. Each number can only appear once in a row,
column or box.
