Thank you so much for your assistance with our Red Apple Catalog sale

In reading we are learning lots of “words to know”. Students need to practice on them daily. We
are learning about leaders, laws and being good citizens. Students are reading passages and
answering questions. In math, we will continue to tell time to the hour using analog and digital
clocks. Student will explore the parts of both types of clocks. In science, we will continue to
predict and identify changes in materials caused by heating and cooling such as ice melting, water
freezing, and water evaporating. Please remember to check binders daily and return all assigned
homework. Mrs. Lopez & Mrs. Nevarez – Second Grade In ELAR we are comparing fiction and nonfiction texts. Next week students will have reading homework that will improve their fluency, accuracy and comprehension. Please be checking students’ backpacks
for a plastic bag with the following; a book, reading log and question cards. Your support in ensuring students complete their homework on a nightly basis is greatly appreciated. In Math we have been working on counting coins up to a dollar. Students have enjoyed playing Dollar Dice and practicing their skills with money. You could help build this skill at home by having students count the change in
your pocket or purse! Please continue to read with your student every night!

Grade newsletter for Miss E. Gomez
We will begin to wrap up on the characteristics of a good citizen and in learning about the importance of historical documents such as the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence. We will review and take the unit test before the end of the week. Parents please encourage your child to read for at least 30 mins. daily. This will help in improving their fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. We are hard at work doing the Reading Plus program for 30 mins. every day, but to be successful in that program your child has to get a grade of an 80 on every story that they read. For this to occur, your child must focus, concentrate, and apply as many reading strategies that they have acquired throughout the years. Every story should not take more than 15 mins., but they must try and do their best in every story that they read. I will be giving them some incentives so that they can be encouraged to do their BEST on a daily basis. By working together we can ensure that OUR STUDENTS CAN SUCCEED.

Counselor’s Corner:
October is finally here and it is full of activities! It is a month of
awareness. It is the official ADHD Awareness Month, National Bullying
Awareness Month, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and
Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Also, Red Ribbon Week and Fire
Prevention Week are during the month of October. With so much
important information to share, I will be providing updates and important
information about each subject matter. I’d like to start off the month
by providing an important and helpful link for ADHD awareness. It is a
great website for parents and educators. Understanding what ADHD is
and how we may assist students or children with ADHD are vital to their
success. Understanding ADHD and what it is and is not is beneficial for
all. My hopes are that the information provided in this link may help a
parent or an educator…. http://www.adhdawarenessmonth.org/wp-
