Digital Optician

Many wearable devices will begin to augment our bodies and finally connect the physical world with the digital. Digital contact lenses will move from the lab to the high street during the next decade.


Body part printer

The amount of 3D printed products and objects is growing. From design and short run production, to the development of body parts and food printers, the future means more people will be employed in the design, production and marketing of new products.


Probation

You could give them a final opportunity to improve their perfor-mance, by issuing a formal warning or placing them on proba-tion.

Probation should be for a fixed period of time. You should let the employee know what improvement you expect and provide sup-port, such as training, to achieve it. Depending on the terms of the employment contract, you may be able to withhold certain benefits and provide shorter notice of dismissal while the em-ployee is on probation. Make sure you have this all formally re-corded and refer to it at each 1-2-1 or appraisal.

Virtual travel guide

Virtual reality may also become a whole new tourism sector, where people could experience different parts of the planet while never travelling there. With improvements to 4K video and the inclusion of immersive sound and smells, individuals could be transported to a village in the Amazon rainforest and never leave their sofa.


E-Gamer

The rise of virtual and augmented reality will offer a host of new jobs, from virtual travel to a rise in the ‘e-sports industry’, which has been tipped to overtake physical sports globally in the next few years. It is an industry that is virtually unknown to anyone over the age of 30.


Biotechnologist

Biotech could be one of the largest areas of new job creation. Having mastered the built environment in the 20th century the future will be perfecting the nano that we cannot see with the human eye.
