Reflections from Parishioners on Week 3’s Theme of “Joy”

• It is a joy for me to come to Mass. I’ve been taking care of my husband for the last 3 years and today is the first time in months that I’ve been able to come to church for Mass. I watch it on EWTN and it’s very good, but I miss the community and it’s a privilege to come to Church. I always took if for granted, but not anymore.

• Joy and happiness are not the same thing at all. Work and expectations that are set too high can diminish my joy, but it is restored when I meet or exceed those expectations and I’m pleasantly surprised. I know that I need to relax more and help others to grow in joy. I am striving to be a better listener and more attentive to others.

• My joy is restored when I surround myself with the people I love. To bring joy into the lives of people around us, it is important to be thankful for them and appreciate who they are in our lives and in the lives of those they touch.

Dear Lord, Please bring them

all home safely. Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. If you have loved ones who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, please call the rectory at 847-437-6208 and we will add their names to our bulletin list. When your loved one has returned home, please let us know so we can remove their name from the list. Thank you.

Today is the feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. We hear the words: “The child grew and be came strong, filler with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.” As we remember the poor during this New Year may we also grow in wisdom and have the favor of God upon us. Please remember to support the St. Vincent de Paul in the coming year so that together we can continue to bring comfort and peace to our brothers and sisters who are suffering. St Vincent de Paul is an emergency source for food and short-term financial help for parishioners and those living within the parish boundaries. Please call 847-437-6208. Requests will be handled with are and confidentiality.
