My Dear Parish Family,

The story of salvation begins with two old people who have nothing to show for their lives and nothing to lose. Abraham and Sarah left their home and people behind in hopes of a fresh start. But after a lifetime of roaming across territories where they didn’t belong and were often in danger, they had no children. This was much more than the disappointment it might be today. In their part of the world, childlessness was a condemnation from heaven, pointblank evidence that they had no place in the realm of the future. Despite this fact and others, Abraham trusted God’s promises more than his own mortal humiliation. And God’s word delivers more than the child Isaac. God delivers to Abraham a land, and nations, and a magnificent story that would be told and retold until the end of time. Abraham and Sarah, two old people who had nothing to show for themselves after a lifetime of striving, got a place in the realm of the future they could not have dreamed of. While all this is wonderful and good, we don’t call them the holy family. They had plenty of issues, as we would say today. A holy family isn’t simply blessed by God. There were and are many holy families throughout biblical history and otherwise. What makes the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is their careful and steadfast attention to God’s divine will. We know their tremendous story of how against all odds they chose the right so that Jesus would be born and raised in their simple home. But their real test came when he grew up and eventually came to the reality of the cross and tomb. How great was their faith! How great was Mary’s faith that would sustain her and the apostles even after Jesus’ resurrection and awaiting the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Today at the dawn of the new calendar year, let us each pray through the intercession of the holy family to pay careful and steadfast attention to God’s will, each and every day of our lives.

God bless you. Fr. Scott

MENSAJE DEL PASTOR …

Querida Familia Parroquial:

Cierra Tú mis oídos a toda falsedad y mis labios a palabras mentirosas, egoístas, mordaces o hirientes.
