THE H EATHMAN LODGE
OUR MISSION
―Hand-Hewn Hospitality‖
An unexpected urban retreat, the Heathman Lodge offers travelers and locals a blend of heart-felt service,
business amenities and rustic, mountain lodge comfort.
Inspired by authentic Pacific Northwest décor and cuisine, the Lodge provides each guest or group of guests
with a calm refuge and a memorable experience.
THE DISCOVERY ALONG THE WAY . . .
The Heathman Lodge was designed to express the beauty and spirit of the Pacific Northwest and bring the
outdoors into the city. Craftsmen built the Heathman Lodge of wood from Northwest forests—fir, cedar,
spruce and pine, and basalt from the ancient volcanic flows which formed the Columbia River Gorge. Designs
from nature and the Northwest Indian culture inspired the paintings, carvings, textiles and sculpture by the
local artists.
The Lodge’s three grand fireplaces were designed and built by craftsmen from Guinett Masonry, who quarried
and split immense boulders of Columba River basalt and selected the best rock for its deep color, tight grain
and velvety texture. Each stone was hand-cut and fitted.
The spruce logs of the Lodge’s interior came from the forests on the Yakima Indian Reservation. The lobby
entrance’s floor is of slate, quarried in eastern Washington and selected for it’s deep warm color. Rare, old
Pendleton Indian blankets hang from the mezzanine bannister. Guestrooms beds are covered by spreads
designed and woven especially for the Heathman Lodge by Pendleton Woolen Mills.
As you enter the lodge be sure to notice the massive and mystical totem pole on the south wall, carved by local
artist Mike Olsen and dedicated to the memory of Bruce R. Stevenson, the inspiration behind the Heathman
Lodge.
