In 1983, Betty Berry retired from AT&T after a 36 year career as a Manager and Computer Programmer. As Betty’s first profession came to an end, dreams of attending college for the first time triumphed over the typical retirement path. Before she knew it, Betty was enrolled at Moorpark College, which led to her transferring and graduating from California Lutheran University. She didn’t stop there. She was accepted into the Ventura College of Law and graduated with a law degree in 1993. It just so happened by chance and thankfully so that Senior Concerns in Thousand Oaks had an opening for a “Senior Advocate” shortly before her graduation. During the summer months of her attending law school, Betty interned with “Grey Law” which specialized in senior issues. Betty was the perfect fit for the senior advocate position and has been serving the seniors in the Conejo Valley for the past 26 years. She has been busy providing resources and information regarding Medicare, Medi-Cal, Social Security, housing, transportation and legal issues. Her weekly column in the Ventura County Star has been a must-read for seniors for more than two decades. As the saying goes, “all good things must come to an end” and Betty Berry has announced her second career retirement. At the end of November, Betty will be moving to New Jersey to be with her family. Betty has enjoyed her 26 years of service to our Goebel seniors and Conejo Valley residents. She is sad that she is leaving but happy to be going home. If you get a chance, stop in to say goodbye and wish Betty good luck on perhaps a third future career!

Be a part of a team of volunteers that provide FREE Income Tax Assistance. Accounting experience not necessary but must be comfortable using computers and commit to one day/week from January to April 2020. We are also looking for volunteers interested in being Greeters. Liane Olin guides individuals and groups in creating a more meaningful and joyful life using movement, guided meditation and

holistic practices to create ways of living with inner peace and happiness. She has survived a gunshot to the head in 2017 and

breast cancer at age 37. Overcoming these injuries and emotional trauma led her to helping others. Now the Thousand Oaks resident

is using her story of overcoming obstacles to inspire others.

A “Question and Answer” period will take place at the conclusion of the televised meeting. This presentation is part of the Council on Aging’s monthly televised speaker series. All citizens are

invited to attend and encouraged to share announcements, concerns, or suggestions during the Public

Comment period.
