Our 2015-2016 Special Project: Sister-to-Sister Summit, A collaboration with AAUW

We are proud to continue working in a collaborative effort with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for the 14th Annual Sister-to-Sister Summit. The Sister to Sister Summit brings together 100 middle school girls from five FWISD schools to a place where they can openly discuss issues that are important to them. The girls break up into small chat groups where they engage in meaningful discussions that are led by college women volunteers, their Sisters for the day. The girls leave the Summit with an understanding that they have the power to raise their self-esteem and control how they react to others. Many of the college volunteers come from the same schools as the participants and that inspires them to finish high school, and plants the seed that they, too, can be college graduates.

To sum up our involvement:

We donated money for T-shirts and supplies for the event. Our logo and Delta Chapter were prominently printed on the front of the T-Shirts along with AAUW.

Members donated items for the college women facilitators and the middle school girls as a way to say "thank you for volunteering".

Members volunteered 2 - 4 hours each the day of the Summit. They worked alongside AAUW members distributing T-shirts and supplies, filling goodie bags, monitoring halls, and serving food.

THE DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SONG

Women teachers, to the calling, Firmly rally, never falling, Duty ne’er upon us palling, Staunch, courageous, we! Loyalty and trust e’er heeding, Mindful of our sisters needing Aid and guidance from those leading. Helpful may we be! To Delta Kappa Gamma Faith we pledge forever! Hand in hand, our loyal band, Forward, moving ever! Onward! ‘tis our sisters need us! Courage, Faith and Honor lead us! Wrongs in truth and justice heed us! Firmly shall we stand! Guardians of the faith yet sleeping, For our sisters watch e’er keeping,

Deeds of others now we’re reaping, We for others stand! To us pioneers have given, We return their gifts to Heaven, Work for others in the leaven, That inspires our band! Oh, Delta Kappa Gamma, In thy fold we gather, Unity and liberty Shall be our watchwords ever, Education e’er we’ll further, Each is bound to each as brother With this faith in one another, We shall win, for aye! Annie Webb Blanton and Cora M. Martin
