The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Texas State Organization PROMOTING EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION THROUGH SCHOLARSHIP, FELLOWSHIP, LEADERSHIP AN HONORARY PROFESSIONAL EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY OF KEY WOMEN EDUCATORS The Heart of the Society is its Members 2016-2017 REPORT OF TEXAS STATE GLOBAL AWARENESS COMMITTEE Connie Rensink, Theta Chi, Area 10 Goals: 1. Promote World Fellowship, Schools for Africa, the DKG/UN relationship, and learn about the 17 member countries. 2. Explore and present ideas for projects and programs, encouraging participation in events that develop leadership, multi-cultural connections and participation in CTAUN, teacher exchanges and educational travel, e-pals, and global education. 3. Promote DKG Texas E-Pals connections with sisters in other countries. 4. Highlight individuals and chapters who are already engaged in projects, activities and programs related to global awareness in the Lone Star News and on the Global Awareness Committee Webpage. Accomplishments and Activities Related to Goals: 1. Committee members presented Global Awareness breakout sessions at Area Workshops and programs to chapters upon request. Articles were published in the Lone Star News. 2. Applied for and received International Speakers Fund to bring Marika Heimbach from Germany to the 2017 TSO Global Awareness Symposium. The Symposium also included Cathy Daugherty, DKG rep to the UN, a Global Issues Panel, and a service project. 3. Attended International Convention in Nashville and passed-out invitation cards. Connected twelve Texas members with members in other countries. Twenty Texas members are on a waiting list for an E-Pal. 4. Encouraged chapters and individuals to share their global work in the committee letter and via the chapter survey and posted global and local projects on the committee webpage. Recommendations or Suggestions: 1. Use resources on the Global Awareness webpage and on DKG.org to present chapter programs and convention breakout sessions. Ask your area’s Global Awareness committee member to present a program for a chapter meeting. 2. Attend the Global Symposium at 2017 TSO Convention. Repeat this event once every biennium. 3. Due to the challenge of recruiting members from other countries, change this program to connect Texas members with members in other U.S. states or discontinue E-Pals. 4. Seek chapters and individuals to spotlight in chapter newsletters and in the Lone Star News.
