dOnaTe TO THe BUCK-a-BOOK SaLeChloe Circle has scheduled our second annual BUCK-A-BOOK SALE for October 6, 9 a.m to 2 p.m. This means that you have 5 Sundays to clear off your bookshelves and deposit them in the very colorful bins outside the sanctuary, in the Adult Ed building, in the Children’s building, in our beautiful new Coffee Bar area and in the office area. We would LOVE to have a book (or 10) donated by every member of the church, and then we’d like every member to buy one too! That would be over $1300 targeted for missions! This event was a lot of fun last year...put it on your calendar now....you won’t want to miss it!

Discernment Team are in need of 20 wind-chimes. These windchimes will be used during the All-Saints Day service. We accept all types,

Schedule

Mom2Mom Fall StudyMom2Mom will begin our Fall session with a new study: One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are by Ann Voskamp. You can learn more about the book and the author at http://onethou-sandgifts.com/about. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 18 from 7-8:30pm in the Parlor Room of the Adult Education Building. We will meet the first and third Tuesdays of each month beginning in October. New members are always welcome and you don’t need to commit to attending

every meeting to join! Childcare is available with advance reserva-tions to Jennifer Barkis.  Please contact Kristen Bridgeman for more information 512-632-1789 or [email protected].

September Lydia Circle Lydia Circle will meet in the Parlor of the Adult Education Bldg. on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 7 pm for an evening of rejuvenation. Childcare is provided at the church with proper reservations. For additional information, please call Jamie Holt at (830) 591-3370.

Wanna Build a Habitat for Humanity

House? You will have the opportunity next spring as we help sponsor the next Austin area Methodist Build. You can help with funding and on-site labor. Funding first, of course. Local Methodist churches are in the process of raising $65,000, which is what it takes to sponsor a house. We have set a goal of raising $10,000 toward the build for

our share. During September, we will be selling square feet from an actual floor plan of a Habitat house. It costs about $50 a square foot to build a Habitat house but we will take any donation you are willing to give. You can write your initials on the square feet you purchase on the floor plan, if you would like. You can also drop a check in the offering plate on Sundays; just make it out to OHUMC and put Habitat for Humanity in the memo line. We will also make Habitat for Humanity donations available during Gifts of Caring in December. We also plan to have a pancake breakfast at the local Applebee’s in January or February. Prayers for the success of the build are always welcome. Call me, Jerry Morford, at 301-3738 or send me an e-mail at [email protected] if you have questions about the Methodist Build.

UMW Book Club Our September UMW selection is The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner’s Semester at America’s Holiest University by Kevin Roose. The author writes with humor and compassion about transferring from Brown University, a secular environment, to Liberty University, among fundamentalist Christians. We will meet again Thursday, September 27, at 10 a.m. at Panera Bread on William Cannon. Please contact Diana Goodloe at 906-1931 or [email protected] if you have questions.

Farewell to the Lipman FamilyOur heartfelt prayers and good wishes go with Kendra and Sam Lipman as they move to a new church home at Bethany UMC in north Austin, where Kendra will fill a position very similar to her position here. This is a wonderful opportunity for Kendra and their family and we are happy for them, but we will miss them at Oak Hill! Kendra has been our Assistant Music Director and not only assisted Dr. Pence with the Chancel Choir, but directed and worked with other adult groups and choirs, our Youth Choir, and our Kingdom Kids Choir. And we have all been blessed by her talents and those of her husband Sam, both accomplished musicians, wonderful people, and the parents of beautiful little Harper Rose, who always brings a smile to our faces.  Godspeed to the Lipman family! We will look forward to their visits in the future.

JOIN OUR ACOLYTE PROGRAM!We are looking for some third-fifth graders to join our Acolyte Ministry program. This is a wonderful way for older children to participate in worship and learn about leadership in the church. Acolytes are needed each Sunday at our three morning worship services and occasionally at special services throughout the year.

Our Acolyte Coordinator, Kelly Latz, will take your information and contact you as acolytes are needed and see if your child is available, so your child’s participation fits your schedule. We offer training and will help your child feel comfortable with what to do. If you are interested in your child becoming an acolyte, please send his or her name and grade, your email address, and which worship service your child can be available for (8:45, 10:00, 11:15) to Kelly Latz at fbhh.com and please plan to come with your child to the next Acolyte Training event on Sunday, September 30, at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Mission Possible Kids is an organization that encourages kids to change the world through community service. TOP SECRET missions range from collecting goods for food banks and cook-ing meals for homeless shelters to assembling care packages for U.S. troops overseas and making gifts for children in the far reaches of the world. We will also be participating in local and regional projects that serve our neighbors. Over 30 agents have signed on as MPKids agents this year-WOW!! But it’s not too late! Kids age 3-5th grade are invited to be secret agents. Just meet us in the Children’s Bldg. at 4 pm Sunday, October 14 to register and become a member! Kids age 3 through Kindergarten will meet in Room C105 with Ms. Jennifer and kids in 1st - 5th Grades will meet in the Great Room with Ms. Becca. There is a one time start up fee of $18, which includes all materials and supplies plus your Mission Possible Kids t-shirt (make checks out to the church (OHUMC) and put MPK and the child’s name in the memo line). Scholarships are available if needed. See Ms. Suzanne for more information on a scholarship.

For more information, please contact Agent Handler Becca Hemenway at [email protected].

Kids CAN change the world!! Come be a part of this fun and important ministry!!!

Welcome, Ms. Diana! We welcome Ms. Diana Hopkins to our Music staff. Diana’s first Sunday is Sunday, September 16th. Please welcome and pray for Diana and her husband Steven as they start this new journey! One of her responsibilities will be direct-ing the Kingdom Kids Choir (2nd-5th grades). We want everyone to come to choir and greet Ms. Diana and get to know her. She is a lot of fun, very talented, and you will be glad you chose to be in choir with her!

Choir is a great way for children to learn about music, come to appreciate it, and express their faith. It is also a great op-portunity to work with others, accomplish goals, and serve the Lord and the church. Kingdom Kids is our choir for second-fifth graders and will normally meet in the Great Room. They sing in worship several times a year, learn the fundamentals of singing and some basic theory while learning the

songs of our faith. Kingdom Cubs is our choir for 4 year olds through first graders and our goal for this group is to teach them a love for music through games, fun with our friends, and singing simple songs. Both choirs meet every Wednesday at 6:15 p.m., the Kids in the Great Room and the Cubs in Rm. C107. We hope your children will come sing with us this year!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Suzanne Steves ([email protected]) or Dr. Suzanne Pence ([email protected]). We appreciate your help in making choirs a strong part of our children’s ministries program.

FLOCk-LOCk - Friday, September 21Overnight lock-in for fourth and fifth graders - 8 p.m. September 21 to 8 a.m. September 22 in the Great Room, Children’s Building. There will be movies, games and activities, food, fun and friends!Register ($15/person) with Ms. Suzanne by Thursday, September 20 [email protected].
