Nature’s Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards Presents: The Best of the Best -
National Museum of Natural History,10th Street and Constitution Ave., NW

The temporary exhibition features more than 100 large-format prints selected from nearly 500,000
images submitted over 20 years by photographers from around the globe for the annual Nature’s Best
Photography: Windland Smith Rice International Awards. Photos in the exhibition include dramatic
landscapes, exciting wildlife and surprising glimpses of Earth’s icy peaks to mysterious ocean depths.
Inside Today's FBI: Fighting Crime in the Age of Terror

The exhibit features never-before-displayed evidence and artifacts from some of the FBI's
biggest cases. In the post-9/11 era, the bureau's top priorities are terrorists, spies and
cybercriminals, stalked with powerful new surveillance technologies. From the Boston
Marathon bombing to the Internet's sinister Silk Road, go behind the scenes with the FBI to explore how crime and crime-fighting have evolved in the
post-9/11 age. (Exhibit on display through May 8, 2016)
WONDER –The Renwick Gallery,

The exhibit encompasses all the public galleries, with new room-size installations by nine artists, including Jennifer Angus, Chakaia Booker, Gabriel Dawe, Tara Donovan, Patrick Dougherty, Janet Echelman, John Grade, Maya Lin and Leo Villareal. Each artist works intensively with expressive materials-insects, tires, thread, paper, osiers, netting, woven wood, glass
marbles, and LED light strips-to create installations that dazzle the eye and resonate with today's environmental
and social issues. Nicholas Bell, the Fleur and Charles Bresler Curator of Craft and Decorative Arts, selected
the artists. (The second-floor galleries open until May 8, 2016, and the first-floor galleries are open until July 10,
2016)
Gaithersburg Arts Barn
In partnership with Montgomery Playhouse, Arts on the Green presents A Grand Night for Singing, a
Broadway tribute showcasing the music of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
The show runs February 12 through 27, 2016, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square
Road. An additional matinee takes place on February 20 at 2 p.m. Admission is $22, $12 for children 14 and
under. This show is recommended for ages 12 and older.
Art of the Airport Tower– National Air & Space Museum,Independence Ave. at 7th St. SW
Washington, DC.
The exhibition is composed of 50 photographs by Smithsonian photographer Carolyn Russo and explores the varied forms and functions of airport traffic control towers
in the U.S. and around the world. Russo traveled to 85 airports in 23 countries to capture images of these towers.
The resulting photos interpret them as monumental abstractions, symbols of cultural expression and
testimonies of technological change.
(Exhibit on display until November 2016).
Through the African American Lens: Selections from the Permanent Collection
– National Museum of American History14th Street and Constitution Ave., NW Washington, DC.
The exhibit showcases artifacts that will be a part of the new National Museum of African American
History when it opens in 2016. The exhibit tells the stories of trailblazers, innovators, visionaries and
history makers who helped to shape America through items that belonged to freedom fighters,
unsung activists and servicemen, sports and entertainment legends and prominent artists and
designers. See personal items that belonged to Harriet Tubman, James Brown, Carl Lewis and more.

Carmen: An Afro-Cuban Jazz Musical
Olney Theatre CenterFebruary 10- March 6, 2016
The show brings the action of one of the most sensual stories of all time to Cuba on
the verge of revolution in 1958. The passion-fueled opera is a sexy, swinging
Afro-Cuban Jazz musical. Kaufman’s Carmen is a gun-runner for the rebels, who falls fiercely in love with José, a Batista loyalist. When Cuba’s boxing
legend Camilo returns to Havana, Carmen and José’s love falls tragically apart.
