Dear Friends

My bags are packed – at least my sleeping bag is – and I’m ready to go straight from the PreMarriage course with 32 couple tomorrow night in the parish hall to Wembley Stadi-um. I’m sleeping rough there with some other people, most of them CEO’s of big com-panies and the Dean of Westminster Abbey. It is in aid of the Cardinal Hume Centre the Centre for homeless teenagers. The last time I was at Wembley was for a football match during the Olympics. It was magic. Before that it was for a Simon and Garfunkel concert when they had got back together again. And before that it was to lead 92,000 in song as they awaited the arrival of Saint Pope John Paul 11 for the Mass in the stadium. So I can claim to have played Wem-bley. Will you sponsor

me? Then please go to https://www.justgiving.com/Pat-Browne/ . or put some-thing in an envelope marked Cardinal Hume Cen-tre.

Our little parish team working with London Citizens took on as their pro-ject to make Lupus Street a City Safe Haven! Over 30 shops in the street have signed up to the London Citizens City Safe Haven project and are proudly displaying the purple sticker letting everybody know. This is a simple concept whereby a shop agrees to call the parent/guardian of a child or young person who feels under threat or who is in trouble and keep them safe until help arrives. If necessary they also commit to call the police.

Now that that they are established, we have a small group of five volun-teers from the parish – all from the Union of Catholic Mothers Group – each with a small group of 5-6 shops under her wing. Each leader will check in with the shops on a regular basis to make sure the project stays alive. Community working together to help try to make our streets safer…this is what it is all about. Well done Ladies.

Yours devotedly.

Something a bit different for you this week: The London Internet

Church is a gathered global community that meets online to worship,

enquire, encourage and pray. They offer, amongst other things:

Pray-as-you-go is a daily prayer session,

designed for use on portable devices to help you pray while you’re on the move. A new prayer session is produced each day of the week, with a single reflection for the weekend. It is not a ‘Thought for the Day’, a sermon, or bible study, but a framework for your own prayer. Each session lasts

between ten and thirteen minutes and combines music, scripture, and questions for reflection. It’s designed to help you to become more aware of God’ presence in your life, listen to and reflect on God’s word, and to grow in your relationship with God. As well as daily prayer sessions there are a number of reflections and retreats. We’ve collaborated with Sacred Space, an Irish Jesuits site, to produce retreats for Advent and Lent over the past few years.

Pray as you go is produced by Jesuit Media Initiatives with material written by a

number of British Jesuits and other experts in the spirituality of St Ignatius of

Loyola.

House Groups The small

faith groups

start in 1 week

and last for 6 weeks—usually held in a member’s home for about an hour. We reflect on Scrip-

ture and discuss Christian practice in contemporary soci-ety, helped by a booklet pre-pared by the diocese. Also a great way to meet and get to

know other parishioners. Com-mitment: An hour a week for six weeks, twice a year. Con-tact: JudyAnn 020 7834 6965
