Basilepta makiharai, Colaspoides nepalensis, Chrysolina tangalaensis, Pyrrhalta tatesuji, Stenolupems thudamensis, Stenolupems emotoi, Sastmcella collaris, Amphimela subgeminata, Aphlhona basantapurica, Aphthona dobangensis, Hespera strigiceps, Luperomorpha nepalica, Manobia shimai, Manobidia major, Sphaeroderma nakanishii, Tegyrius piceus and Dactylispa plalycanthoides, are described as new species. Basilepta nepalense Chujo is treated as a new synonym of Cleorina jacobyi Duvivier. In total, 32 species are recorded for the first time from Nepal. Preface A good number of chrysomelid beetles were collected by the Kyushu University Scientific Expedition to Nepal Himalaya in 1971 and 1972. This paper is a result of my study on the material.     Synopsis

    In total, 253 species of Chrysomelidae collected by the Kyushu UniversityScientific Expedition to the Nepal Himalaya, are enumerated. Of which 17 species,viz. Basilepta makiharai, Colaspoides nepalensis, Chrysolina tangalaensis, Pyrrhaltatatesuji, Stenolupems thudamensis, Stenolupems emotoi, Sastmcella collaris, Amphimelasubgeminata, Aphlhona basantapurica, Aphthona dobangensis, Hespera strigiceps,Luperomorpha nepalica, Manobia shimai, Manobidia major, Sphaeroderma nakanishii,Tegyrius piceus and Dactylispa plalycanthoides, are described as newspecies. Basileptanepalense Chujo is treated as a new synonym of Cleorina jacobyi Duvivier. In total,32 species are recorded for the first time from Nepal.

    Agood numberof chrysomelid beetles were collected by the Kyushu UniversityScientific Expedition to Nepal Himalaya in 1971 and 1972. This paper is a resultof my study on the material.

    The material was collected by Drs. H. Shima, A. Nakanishi, J. Emoto, H.Makihara and Y. Nishida, and Liaison Officer, Tula Bahador Serchant, andSherpa, Juamvang Tenzing and Pemba Norbu.

    This species was described originally by a single specimen. A specimen takenfrom Tank to Penmaten area slightly differs from the nominate form in having theelytral broad sturual stripe which is not deeply contricted at the middle, and threespecimens from Hile to Basantapur area differ in having the elytron blackish onlyon marginal areas, with the elytral suture widely blackish.

    Basilepta femorata (Jacoby, 1908)

    Medvedev & Sprecher (1999) treated femorata as a form of splendens Hope, butthis species differs in having the lateral margin of pronotum not sharplyangulatedas splendens but obtusely angulated behind middle.

    Basilepta makiharai sp. nov.Body oblong oval, convex. Generally pitchy black to dark reddish brown;

    antenna entirely yellowish brown.

    Head with vertex distinctly and rather closely punctate and its surface finelyshagreened;fronto-clypeus impressed bystrongly punctures and with a pair of shortlongitudinal costae laterally. Antenna robust, nearly %as long as body length, inpreapical segments nearly twice as long as wide; first segment robust, somewhatclub-shaped; second nearly halfas longas first in length; third 1% times as longassecond in length but slenderer; fourth subequal to third in length and shape; fifthslightly shorter than fourth in length, and fifth to tenth subequal to each other inlength but stouter than preceding; eleventh slighdy longer than tenth and its apexpointed.     This new species resembles Chrysolina doherity Maulik, 1926, from Burma, butdiffers in having the antenna robuster and in preapical segments slightly wider thanlong, and elytral punctures semiregularly arranged in eleven longitudinal rows. Andfrom Chrysolina dhaulagirica Medvedev, 1990, from Nepal, differs in having theelytron entirely dark bronz.

    Amphimela subgeminata sp. nov.Generally reddish brown, elytron bluish black, antenna reddish brown with

    four or five apical semgnets somewhat infuscate.Head with vertex convex, smooth, shining, nearly impunctate; interocular

    space much wider than transverse diameter of single oculus, and interocular transverse furrow feebly impressed, inter-antennal space wide, distinctly raised; frontaltubercles not raised. Antenna robust, nearly %as long as body length; preapicalsegments nearly twice as long as wide; first segment long, robust, club-shaped; second nearly half as long as first; third subequal to second in length but slenderer;fourth subequal to third in length but triangular in shape; fifth subequal to fourthin length, and fifth to tenth subequal to each other in length but much stouter thanpreceding; eleventh nearly 1 '/3 times as long as tenth, and its apex pointed.Pronotum transverse, nearly twice as long as wide, anterior margin nearly straight,sides distinctly rounded, widestat basal margin, gradually narrowed anteriorly, basalmargin widely rounded posteriorly and slightly produced posteriorly at middle;surface smooth, shining sparsely impressed by fine punctures. Scutellumsubtriangular, smooth, shining, impunctate. Elytron with lateral margin stronglyrounded, surface impressed by nine subgeminate rows of strong punctures, and ashort scutellar rowand a marginal row of punctures, and their interstices impressedby minute punctures.

    This new species resembles Amphimela apicalis Kimoto, 2000, from Thailand, inhaving ths similar coloration, but differs in having the elytron impressed by thesubgeminate rows of punctures and the elytron entirely bluish black.

    Aphthona basantapurica sp. nov.Generally pitchy black, elytron bluish black; head with frontal tubercle,

    frontoclypeus and labrum reddish brown; antenna pitchy black with two or threebasal segments reddish brown; legs pitchy black with slight bluish luster.

    Head with vertex smooth, shining, impunctate; frontal tubercles distinctlyraised, contiguous, subtriangular, oblique, distinctly separated posteriorly by deepfurrow; surface smooth, shining; inter-antennal space distinctly raised longitudinally. Antenna robust, nearly%as long as body length; in preapical segmentsnearly twice as long as wide; first segment long, robust, slightly curved; secondnearly half as long as first; third nearly as long as second but slenderer; fourthnearly twice as long as third but robuster, and fourth to tenth subequal to eachother in length but stouter than preceding; eleventh slightly longer than tenth andits apex pointed. Pronotum transverse, convex from side to side, nearly 1 Yi timesas wide as long; sides feebly rounded, widest at '/3 from basal margin, distinctlyrounded anteriorly and feebly so posteriorly; anterior corner thickened, posteriorcorner widely rounded, and each with a setigerous pore; anterior margin slightlyrounded anteriorly and posterior margin widely rounded posteriorly; surfacesmooth, shining, sparsely impressed by small punctures. Scutellum subtriangular,smooth, shining, impuctate. Elytron broader than prothorax at base; humems distinctly raised; surface distinctly and rather closely punctate, and their intersticessmooth and shining.
