FOCUS by Fr Bill Senn
This Sunday (today) the Church celebrates the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, by his parents Mary & Joseph. Mary & Joseph do this in obedience to the law of their faith. In doing this they experience a number of encounters with various people, namely Simeon and Anna. In each of these en-counters something about Jesus is revealed, eg Simeon speaks various words about the child "he is des-tined for the fall and rise of many" and to Mary directly he says "your own soul, a sword will pierce". After presenting Jesus in the Temple and thus fulfilling the dictates of their religious faith, Mary & Joseph return with Jesus to Nazareth, where they resume the usual rhythm of family & community life. No doubt Mary & Joseph wonder about the future of their child & ponder all the many words spoken about him in the Temple in Jerusalem, as the Scriptures proclaim, "God's favour was upon him." We might ask ourselves in reflection, "how do I encounter the Lord in my own life?" "Do I regularly present my own children (or myself) in the Church, so that they too can encounter Jesus?" "Do I give priority to the place of God and faith in my life, as did Mary & Joseph?" As we commemorate and celebrate the Presentation of the Lord, may we reflect upon our own journey as a missionary disciple of the Lord, and ask what we can do to further the Kingdom of God in the 'here &
now' of our everyday life.

Joke of the Week Two workers were rostered on in the public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in. After a while, one amazed on looker said “ Why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it in again?” The hole digger wipes his brow and sighed, “Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we’re normally a three person team, but today the fellow who plants the trees called in sick.” Safeguarding
