AMORES LAETITIA, ‘The Joy of Love: On Love in the Family’, a new papal document was published by Pope Francis last Friday. This papal document is known as an ‘Apostolic Exhortation’. In the document Pope Francis says “The Exhortation” is especially timely in this Jubilee of Mercy. Firstly, because it represents an invitation to Christian families to value the gifts of marriage and the family, and to persevere in a love strengthened by the virtues of generosity, commitment, fidelity and patience. Secondly, because it seeks to encourage everyone to be a sign of mercy and closeness wherever family life remains imperfect or lacks peace and joy.” “I thank God that many families, which are far from considering themselves perfect, live in love, fulfil their calling and keep moving forward, even if they fall many times along the way. The Synod’s reflections show us that there is no stereotype of the ideal family, but rather a challenging mosaic made up of many different realities, with all their joys, hopes and problems.”
