Dinner was served and we had a very tasty chick-en soup for starter followed by lamb stew, mashed potato and veg (No Squeaky Beans

though) Hooray all of you can have ‘em after next week!)

Following dinner and a short coffee break I deliv-

ered this week’s quiz.

Quiz Night!

With it being KYBPD this Saturday I thought I would test the teams knowledge of the subject

as well as your general knowledge of Rotary and there some random Q’s thrown in too.

Both teams gave it a good go and a fair result

was a draw in the end. ( editor: No we won and only cheated a bit with the score)

Here are the questions if fancy having a go your-self, if anything it’s good prep for Saturday’s KY-

BPD at the Brunel Centre ;-)

How many Know Your Blood Pressure events were there during 2015’s KYBPD?

What is the estimated number of BPs tested

since KYBP campaign began in 2003?

What are the names for the first and second readings on a blood pressure reading?

President Geoff con-

gratulates Ian on a

well thought out

quiz and evenings

entertainment

Golds reminded everyone about the KYBPD tak-ing place this Saturday. If any of the volunteers

has a friend or family member they wish to bring along to help at the event they are more

than welcome, the more the merrier!

Rtn Paul Parfrey updated the club on the new storage unit that we have secured. Darren

Crannis and Paul are visiting the unit to make it secure prior to moving our stuff into the lock up.

Paul also updated the club on the barge week which is due to take place between 14th – 20th May. All of the days have now been allocated

and the team will play host to a number of very worthy groups.

Finally, a brief update on the dragon boat event, we are now up to 11 boats that have signed up and the banners are now present at Coate Wa-

ter. Please everyone; keep promoting this event to make it the biggest and best one yet!

Next week’s host is Barbara Goulding.

(1,000,000)

(The systolic reading is first, followed by the

diastolic reading. For example, if your systolic reading is 120mmHg and your diastolic reading is 80mmHg, your blood pressure is 120 over 80. This is commonly written as 120/80.) (Editor; see page 4)

when in fact, the only sign is to know your numbers and have a test!)

I repeat the thanks from our Front page, as you are the team that made the event so successful, not only taking the BP readings of around 200 folk but also the superb PR you gave to Rotary and to our Club in particular, with your friendly approach and hap-py manner which led to interest from, prospective members, from possible extra teams in our Dragon Boat Race, then to top it off the possibility of interesting speak-ers who wish to come along and indeed may even want to join us as members at a later date. This was an event that worked for Swindon Phoenix on so many levels WELL DONE ALL! A lovely piece in Foothill Highland Bulletin this week on their relics!!! These are members who have been in Rotary for a certain amount of time this

all complied by Rtn Sam Morgan with help for her sister in Law Gail Shaffer who were both over here on the last exchange it was especially poignant when I spotted a picture of an ex-change in 1997 which I have copied and popped in here (sorry the quality is not too good due to reproduction problems) but you can just make out the folks in it which include our very own Hon Member Margaret parsons and her late dear husband P P Leslie, PHF and some other Brits I seem to know quite well— Tony Horn, Alan & Gill Jefferies, Peggy Goldsworthy and her toy-boy all pictured with folk we are still in touch with and with whom we have shared so many great times.

The Americans pictured; John & June Hallsten Carla Curran her late husband Bob who is also pictured in 2008 when he introduced Annie Hallsten to Rotary ( John & Junes Granddaughter who has since been one of their Presidents)

Hey does this make some of us Brits Relics

too?? Nah! silly thought really!

Well done Sam Morgan, wish we had been there also with y’aal on Dicks boat this weekend for your Clubs fundraiser, hope it all went well

Please delete old Email for Hon Member Kevin

Brown and use this new one from now on thank

you. Please use:- [email protected]

This is my last Birdy for a while now as early on

Thursday Peggy and I together with Alan & Gill

Jefferies of Swindon Thamesdown Rotary Club will

be spreading joy and happiness whilst pioneering in

Obama territory, of course following President

Obama’s lead, we will not hesitate to tell them how

to run their Country too! We may point out that we

may also actually put them ‘at the back of the

Queue in future! However as non political folk we

will just keep it on a purely personal level!

I look forward to reading the Birdies from Scoop,

Grumpy and Super Scribe during our holiday and as

you will realise we will both try to keep out of the

way of all animals with 4 legs especially in races!

Dear event organiser,

Best of luck for your Know Your Blood Pressure

event, we hope it’s a big success!

Thank you so much for organising a Know Your Blood

Pressure event for 2016. 2015 was a great year for the

campaign; with over 1680 events registered, it was our

best year yet. We’re hoping that this year’s Know Your

Blood Pressure Campaign will be even better!

By holding this event, you are helping to raise aware-

ness of the link between high blood pressure and stroke

and ensure that people at risk get appropriate treat-

ment.

can be is a great way to encourage more people to

take part. Please send any photos to the email ad-

The Royal College of Nursing has weighed in

on Prime Minister David Cam-eron's health care proposals for the

National Health Service.

The Allergists voted to scratch it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves. The Gastroenterologists had a sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Admin-istration had a lot of nerve. The Obstetricians felt they were all labouring un-der a misconception. Ophthalmologists considered the idea short-sighted. Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while thePaediatricians said, "Oh, Grow up." The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it. The Surgeons were fed up with the cuts and de-cided to wash their hands of the whole thing. The Ear Nose and Throat specialists didn't swallow it, and just wouldn't hear of it. The Pharmacists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter...." The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea. The Anaesthetists thought the whole idea was a gas, but the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no. In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the ar**holes in Whitehall.

When it was time to take the children to the toilet, it

was decided that the girls would go with one teacher

and the boys would go with the other.

The teacher assigned to the boys was waiting outside

the men's toilet when one of the boys came out

and told her that none of them could reach the urinal.

Having no choice, she went inside, helped the boys

with their underpants, and began hoisting the boys

As she lifted one, she couldn't help but notice that he

Thanks to Rtn Chris Durie in Oz for this Two nuns were shopping at a 7-11 store. As they passed by the beer cooler, one nun said to the other," Wouldn't a nice cool beer or two taste wonderful on a hot summer evening? The second nun answered, "Indeed it would, sister, but I would not feel comfortable buying beer, since I am certain it would cause a scene at the checkout stand." "I can handle that without a problem," the other nun replied, and she picked up a six-pack and headed for the checkout. The cashier had a surprised look on his face when the two nuns arrived with a six-pack of beer. "We use beer to rinse our hair after washing," the nun said, "back at our nunnery, we call it Catholic Shampoo." Without blinking an eye, the cashier reached under the counter, pulled out a package of pretzel sticks and placed them in the bag with the beer.

He then looked the nun straight in the eye, smiled, and said: "The curlers are on the house."

Thanks Grumpy for this one

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of

service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to

encourage and foster:

1)The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for

service;

2) High ethical standards in business and professions, the

recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and

the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity

to serve society;

3) The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s

personal, business, and community life;

4) The advancement of international understanding, goodwill,

and peace through a world fellowship of business and profes-

sional persons united in the ideal of service.

(It is not usual to read the numbers aloud when reciting the object)
