Good evening Peter 6/7/16 Host Anne Pileggi Guest Cher Smith MBE from Swindon Food Bank.

Grace was; Let us give thanks for food

when others are hungry For drink when others are

thirsty For friends when others are

lonely. Dinner was Fish cake followed by sausage and mash, amazing food! Introduced by President Nicole, Cher started her talk with a brief over view of the Food bank and its core values. Togeth-

er we can help stop hunger. Food bank is a nationwide initiative started by the Trussell Trust in 2000.

The Swindon Foodbank was established in 2005 (the 5th Foodbank in the UK) by Swindon Christian community Project. This year it will cost £60,000 to run, next year it is anticipated at £70,000. All of this money has to be raised by dona-tion. No money is given by the govern-ment, council or grants.

Page 3

The scheme is run by 1 full time member of staff, 2 part timers, and hundreds of volunteers. There are also 2 vans that are needed to distribute the food. From January to May 2016, 2,000 people have been fed by Swindon Food bank. All distribution centres are church's, which can be accessed Monday to Friday. When folk arrive at a Centre, they will be offered tea/ coffee and cake/ biscuits. Whilst being be advised of all things available to help and support them at this time. A box of food will be issued, the contents of which are predetermined. Each box provides 3 days of food. Other items such as toiletries may be available occasionally, depending on do-nations.

Cher is going to launch many new pro-jects over the next year she will keep me informed.

Martin Lewis is now involved and helping with the More than Food project, giving advice on how to manage their money. So much more information was given, if you wish to find out more ring me on 01793 478045 or [email protected] Cher was thanked for sharing this infor-mation with us.

Club business was discussed. Golds related, that at IPP Geoff's ‘Passing out Ball’ a Heads or Tails game was played with a bottle of Champagne left over from the Dragon Boat Race Draw as a prize this was ultimate-ly won by non other than DG Tony Horn in his final days as a DG. So no one can

say that Tony doesn't know his head from his arse, can they? This game, due to the mastery of Ian Price (President Nicole’s con-sort!) on the microphone raised £130.00 and is the first of what we hope will be many monetary collec-tions for this years Swindon Phoenix Club’s Internation-al Project…..

The Jaipur limb Project

The club was then shown the winning posters that the children's poster compe-tition we co sponsored through the good offices of Rotarian Gale Light and which

will be featured all over town with our Phoenix logo on

There are no birthdays this month. No one has returned from holiday. I hope this is enough and ok Peter.* Xxx Anne Pileggi * Not only is it OK Anne but once again

you have delivered your host report the

same evening as the meeting was held

….as the Editor I am most impressed.

Would all future hosts try to emulate

Anne, as it makes the editors job so much

easier than waiting for the copy to even-

tually come in (or even not) enabling me

to put photos in the correct place

Above are some taster

going Presidents ball more will arrive in future

Fellow Phoenicians.....

With the Dragon Boat event behind us but not forgotten and thoughts about next year al-ready underway, its time to reflect on the day and have your opportunity to be part of a feedback session.

The Dragon Boat Committee are meeting next week to go through the key points and these will be report-ed to the club members in attendance at the Phoenix Weekly Club Meeting next Wednesday, 13th July.

Your input and opportunity to participate in this is crucial and valued so please think twice about putting in your apologies for next week and come along to the meeting for which I will be host.

Look forward to seeing you then and please remem-ber that the Club meeting will start at the later time of 8pm.

Thanks Paul

Will told his wife, "I've got a

problem."

She stopped him right there.

"No, dear, WE have a problem. We're in this together, Will. We married for better or for worse. Therefore, your problem is our problem." Will sighed in relief. "Well, now it's hardly worth mentioning." But his wife was insistent. "Go ahead, Will; tell me. What's wrong?" Will answered, "Somehow, we got your sister pregnant "

LITTLE Larry A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses. She started her class by saying, 'Everyone who thinks they're stupid, stand up!' After a few seconds, Little Larry stood up. The teacher said, 'Do you think you're stupid, Larry?' 'No, ma'am, but I hate to see you standing there all by yourself!'

Larry watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold cream on her face. 'Why do you do that, mommy?' he asked. 'To make myself beautiful,' said his mother, who then began removing the cream with a tissue. 'What's the matter, asked Larry 'Giving up?'

The math teacher saw that Larry wasn't paying attention in class. She called on him and said, 'Larry! What are 2 and 4 and 28 and 44?' Larry quickly replied, 'NBC, FOX, ESPN and the Cartoon Network!'

Larry's kindergarten class was on a field trip to their local police station where they saw pictures tacked to a bulletin board of the 10 most wanted criminals. One of the youngsters pointed to a picture and asked if it really was the photo of a wanted person. 'Yes,' said the policeman. 'The detectives want very badly to capture him.'

g’ Larry asked, "Why didn't you keep him when you took his picture ? "

Little Larry attended a horse auction with his father. He watched as his father moved from horse to horse, running his hands up and down the horse's legs and rump, and chest. After a few minutes, Larry asked, 'Dad, why are you doing that?' His father replied, 'Because when I'm buying horses, I have to make sure that they are healthy and in good shape before I buy. Larry, looking worried, said, 'Dad, I think the UPS guy wants to buy Mom ..... '

A guy is looking for a place to sit in a crowded university library. He asked a girl: "Do you mind if I sit beside you?"

The girl replied in a loud voice:

"I DON'T WANT TO SPEND THE NIGHT WITH YOU!"

All the students in the library started staring at the guy he was truly embarrassed and moved to another table.

After a couple of minutes the girl walked quietly to the guy's table and said with a laugh:

"I study psychology and I know what a man is thinking. I guess you felt embarrassed right?"

The guy then responded in a loud voice: "£500 FOR ONE NIGHT? THAT'S TOO MUCH!"

All the people in the library looked at the girl in shock.

The guy whispered to her:

"I study law and I know how to screw people."
