Contests

Every team will be offered a space every edition of the Newsletter to submit something funny... write about their game... whatever...and since we’re doing a newsletter every Tuesday of every week, you have plenty of time to come up with something! If your team doesn’t submit anything, and isn’t in the newsletter, talk to your captain!

Ideas for Team Submissions When I say, submit something for your team, here are some ideas: • Play by plays of the game • Document the debauchery at the bar - i.e. describing someone’s amazing acting skills hobbling across the bar with a “sprained ankle” just to Ice a teammate. ] • Draw pictures!!!!! • Favorite quotes, poems, song lyrics, movie scripts, YouTube video, or motivational speeches! • Email chains from the morning after . • Funny pictures of you, your team, or something random on the internet • Give your team member awards - drunkest, loudest, person with the least shame, best off the face catch, etc.! • Anything. Really. Someone on your team is creative.

Submissions are due EVERY Tuesday by 7 p.m.

Backyard Sports Club’s email is

[email protected]. I look forward to working with all of you!

** If you need extra time, email me and just let me know.

DISCLAIMER: if you have problems with keeping your language in check, not bashing refs, being overly nasty to other teams, and other no-no’s, the Editor does have the right to not include your write up in the newsletter if the content is deemed inappropriate or out of line. We will try to screen write ups as they are received, will try to let teams know so that they have time to resubmit, but there is no guarantee. The easiest thing to do is to keep it clean, be nice, and remember this is all in good fun.

Wiffskey Militia

It is always fun playing the Militia. It was a pretty good game with a lot of homeruns being hit. I know the Militia hit quite a few but we hung in there and really made it interesting in the last inning. A lot of good plays, funny jokes, and even a little singing made for a good game. good game Bombers and hats off to The Militia.

- Gordon Boothe

I’m so excited that Da Bombers are back to playing on Thursdays! We always have lots of fun when we play them. Gordon and Ashleigh, we missed you guys! Overall, the Militia played a pretty solid game. Colin hit his first career wiffle dinger! Good work, homie! And let’s not forget that this was the welcome back game for our team mom, April “Pujols” Cooke! She came back in style hitting two homers! I added two homeruns, also and Craig had one. Two big catches on the day. Jess made a great grab when Ashleigh hit a line drive shot right at her. The bases were loaded too, so this play really had a huge impact on the game. Great job, Jess! And the catch of the day goes to Marcus with an awesome diving/rolling catch in left field. You’re the man, Mark-I! BOOM Bitches!

Holey Balls in Your Mouth

Down Wiff It

I was super proud of my team tonight. Not only are we having a ridiculous amount of fun but we also figured out a way to win while doing just that. Amy keeps dancing like she's in an MTV video, Andrew shaved his beard and doesn't look like the homeless guy I thought I let into the team just to be nice, Doug looks like a killer with a wiffle bat, Mike Mars decided to take the week off, which apparently helped and I keep yelling at everybody pretending I know what I'm talking about. Good job to the guys and gals from Holey Balls and sorry that we are just that good.

Sons of Pitches

Always a good time playing against the Reyeses and this time was no different. Once again playing shorthanded, we mounted as much offense as we could but it wasn't enough to hold off their unstoppable wiffle

I love playing the Pitches. I must say though, I was a bit relieved when I talked to Will earlier in the day and he told me that his BIG hitters wouldn’t be there. But come to find out when I get to the field, Ricky and Brian were there. Lucky for us though, the wind was blowing in preventing any balls from leaving the outfield. As always, great job on D to my team for keeping their score down. You guys never disappoint! Pitches, we’ll see you again May 17th!

- Charm Reyes

fueled freight train. On a windy night, there weren't many home runs to be had so both teams played small ball and they played a better defensive game than we did. Was also nice to see that a childhood game could be played between two teams without the need for an Umpire or any rules disputes. We had a good time and was glad the rain held off long enough for us to play. In the end, we lost 16-5.

Holey Balls in Your Mouth

This was a pretty good game. Both teams were shorthanded but still played a good game. Bombers got off to an early lead but Balls n Mouth came back and made it a game. In the end we pulled it out. Great hitting and heads up base running by Da Bombers. Great job by Balls n Mouth and we look forward to Mr. Salgado also being there "trash talking" and all.

Sons of Pitches

Down Wiff It

Finally we got to play a team that was shorthanded too. We felt like this would be a competitive game where our experience would allow us to prevail. That's certainly not the way the game started as both teams went 3 up 3 down in the first two innings. Then Down Wiff It exploded for 6 or 7 runs and we're leading going into the last inning. The pitches made a miraculous comeback to go up 1 heading into their final at bat. A slick double play by Ricky Jemiola erased their first baserunner and the next ball was a slow roller to short that he easily scooped and threw to the first baseman for the final out of the game and to seal the win.... OH NO!!!! The first baseman dropped it and the tieing run came in to score. next pitch induced a pop-up and the game ended in an 11-11 tie. That first baseman:

- Will Buker

I know that Mr. Jeff SmoothOperator whined for several days about how he had a bum knee and that's probably the reason why we tied one of the better teams in the league. Truth is, Jeff likes to whine, and this was just a really good wiffleball game, that came down to the last pitch. I have to give the MVP of this game to Chris for scoring the tying run in the bottom of the 6th. Good job and can't wait for the rematch in a couple weeks!

Wiffle Ball

Well, since no one wants to read the official Backyard Sports Club Wiffle Ball rules, here is a simple Wiffle Ball for Dummies to help you out as the season starts out!

When running to first base, remember to run across the outside base. The reason for this is so the first baseman doesn’t crush you trying to tag you out. However, if you’re running to 2nd, you can touch 1st base and book it to 2nd.

Wiffle Ball

Well, since no one wants to read the official Backyard Sports Club Wiffle Ball rules, here is a simple Wiffle Ball for Dummies to help you out as the season starts out!

NO SLIDING! NO CLEATS! Unless the ground is wet!

NO GLASS BOTTLES! NO SMOKING!

MOST IMPORTANTLY….DO NOT, DO NOT THROW YOUR TRASH

BAGS WITH EMPTY CANS OR BOXES OF “ADULT BEVERAGES” INTO THE TRASH RECEPTICALS THEY HAVE AT THE FIELDS.

These DO NOT Go Into the Trash Cans at the Fields:

The Field Manager has already warned us about this, and if he has to tell us one more time, he

will take away our drinking privileges at the fields…or worse, he can end up kicking us off these fields all together! So PLEASE take your trash bag full of cans, cups,

and boxes with you!!!

Page 15: The Batter's Box 2nd Ed

The Dos and DONTs

• DO NOT bring alcoholic beverages to the field….or at least be discreet about it! • DO clean up after yourselves! Unfortunately, maid service was cut out of Backyard

Sports Club’s budget due to the economy. • DO be friendly to the Refs: Please do not yell at them…just remember, you’re the one

that will look like a jerk if you yell at them. • DO NOT be “that guy.” We do not own Uno Chicago Grill or the premises around it; so

when you do something stupid, you’re not excluded from any laws just because you are wearing a Backyard Sports Club t-shirt.

• DO NOT leave a fellow wiffleballer behind; we take care of our own. Don’t let your

teammate drink like a champ and drive home. Find the closest decent looking guy/gal, introduce them, and have them go home together.

• DO NOT be bitter. It’s super important that if you end up having a “sleep over” with a

fellow wiffleballer, be cool with them for weeks to follow. We’re a small community, you’re gonna end up seeing them all season! When they drop you off at your car, hug it out, smile…and say “hi” the following week.

• DO NOT try to guess that persons name! • DO go to our sponsor Bar, Uno Chicago Grill. It’s what the cool kids are doing. • DO NOT fight! This is a fun league, HAVE FUN! If you fight, fun’s over for you, you’ll be

kicked out. • DO always wear your Backyard Sports Club shirt. I know laundry once a week may be

too much, so it’s cool if you go a couple weeks without washing….unless you’ve got bad B.O. like Robbie Wright!

• DO NOT smoke at the fields!
