Alpha at St. Francis de Sales

Alpha begins with a meal and then a talk followed by conversation. At Alpha, you can be yourself, say what you think and challenge everything… no question is too complex or too simple and your point of view is as valuable as anyone else’s. Our winter session has begun and there is room for you! Join us to explore life, faith and meaning in the new St. Francis Faith and Family Center, Sunday evenings, 6:30-8:30p. For more details and to register, go to our website: www.stfrancisparish.net or contact Tina Burtch at [email protected].

The Great Adventure Scripture Study We invite you to join us on Wednesdays from 7:15-8:45p in the new Faith & Family Center’s St. Francis Room. The heart of The Great Adventure is The Bible Timeline™ Learning System which ties all of Scripture together by following God’s “family plan”… from Adam and Eve to Christ and the Church. Register online. Contact Tina Burtch if you need a workbook; if you already have a workbook, you are ready to go!

FAITH FORMATION CONTINUED...

AROUND OUR PARISH

The Gift of Being Grand will meet again on Thursday, January 16th in Johnson Hall, 9:15-10:30a. Our own sharing reveals so many wonderful ways to lead our families in faith. If you haven’t been yet, please know you are invited and always welcome to join us; whether you ARE a grandparent, HOPE to be a grandparent, are a spiritual grandparent or HAVE a grandparent. For details, contact Ann Forgrave at 740-366-3090.

Seeds of Faith, Adult Scripture Study: Please join us between the morning Masses most Sundays. Just check the Activities Calendar in the bulletin each week. The new study is all about the Gospel of Mark. Grab some coffee and a donut from the Holy Grounds Café in Johnson Hall and head to the Mary Room (next to the school office) with your Bible to learn about our faith through Scripture. If you are interested, simply come join us, or contact Katherine Kraft at [email protected] to find out more about it.

That Man is You! honestly addresses the pressures and temptations that men face in our modern culture, especially those relating to their roles as husbands and fathers. The program harmonizes current social and medical science with the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of man fully alive! The meetings are Saturday mornings, beginning January 18th in FFC/Murphy Hall, 7:30-9a.

Save the Dates for 2020 Columbus Catholic Conferences! Our parish is offering coach transportation to the Columbus Catholic Women’s Conference, Saturday, February 15 and to the Catholic Men’s Conference on Saturday, February 22! Watch the bulletin for details on bus times. Conference registration is available online: www.columbuscatholicwomen.com or www.catholicmensministry.com.

Adoration Training Scheduled! Current and potential Adorers are invited to attend a training session explaining how to expose and repose the Blessed Sacrament during Adoration hours. If you are not familiar with these procedures, please attend on Sunday, January 19th at 12 noon. Training will be held in the Adoration Chapel. Reservations are not required.

Attention, Magnificat subscribers: If you subscribe through the parish office, your subscription expires with the January 2020 issue. Please stop by the office to renew. Thank you.

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”

A wonderful moment for COM, upon collecting our forms from our mailbox...I reached in and found dollar bills, quarters and dimes – my arms were almost too short to reach it all. Thank you to the children of our school for donating to COM. They gathered $132.06 to add to the aid of the poor and needy in our community.

It was so heartwarming and inspiring to see this incredible display of love.

Also, we have received and transferred our 3rd installment of bicycles to the Freedom Wheels ministry. Thank you Greg Franz and Jeff Fisher!

God Bless you all!Shannon Walker: [email protected]

Sacristans Need Help: We are looking for additional team members to help prepare the church for Sunday worship. This includes light cleaning of the altar and sacristy. Please call Martha at 740-344-8077 and leave a message if you would like more information and are interested in keeping God’s house beautiful.

Respect Life Movie NightCome Saturday, January 18, 7p, to Johnson Hall at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 40 Granville Street in Newark, to see this free, powerful, life-affirming movie, Unplanned.Unplanned is the inspiring true story of one woman’s journey of transformation. All Abby Johnson ever wanted to do was help women. As one of the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic directors in the nation, she was involved in upwards of 22,000 abortions and counseled countless women about their reproductive choices. Her passion surrounding a woman’s right to choose even led her to become a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, fighting to enact legislation for the cause she so deeply believed in.Until the day she saw something that changed everything, leading Abby Johnson to join her former enemies at 40 Days for Life, and become one of the most ardent Pro-Life speakers in America. To see the movie trailer and RSVP to help us in planning, click on Unplanned, the Movie on our parish website.

From the St. Francis de Sales Respect Life GroupThe Respect Life Group invites everyone to participate in the “Gifts for Baby Jesus” program, which benefits Heartbeats of Licking County. At St. Francis we celebrate what is known as Candlemas, which goes through February 2nd, The Presentation of the Lord. Throughout this traditional Christmastide, the Nativity crèche is left on display in the church sanctuary. Parishioners are invited to bring baby items to share with babies and their mothers ministered to by Heartbeats. They have expressed a need for newly packaged items such as: bottles, nipples, pacifiers, wipes, diapers, personal hygiene items (e.g., lotion, bath soap/wash, powder, creams, etc.). Of course, any baby items are useful and will be greatly appreciated. We give these items to Jesus in our church and then He gives them to babies in need in our community through

us. What a wonderful way to extend the joy of Christmas as we encourage young mothers to receive the gift of life with joy! Everything will be donated to Heartbeats pregnancy center directly. Questions, please call Helen Sage: 740-349-5717.

21 Days of Prayer for Life: On the second Sunday of the month from November through February, the Respect Life Group is presenting the 21 Days of Prayer for Life series. And it contains seven days of reflections and prayers to protect life-in-the-womb. For the details, please contact Eric Soiu at [email protected]
