THE BEACON
Our Miss ion
To celebrate and share God’s Love
through dynamic worship experiences,
meaningful spiritual programs,
and nurturing leadership opportunities
as an inclusive Christian church
serving the urban and
global community.
Dear Church Family,
I’ve been thinking about the meaning of the word “Gospel.” It comes from the Greek, euangelion, which you might notice looks like two other words we have in the English language. There’s the word “angel,” which is someone who proclaims, and from euangelion we also get the word “evangelism.” In its most literal sense, euangelion—gospel—is a “Good Proclamation,” or “Good News.”
Mark starts his account of Jesus’ life by writing: “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” Jesus Christ is good news for us and for our world, and we—along with our world—are hungering for good news. In the season of epiphany, we look for the Christ Light shining among us and we look to see the incarnated presence of God enacting God’s ways in the world. We ask where the good news is breaking in.
Where are you seeing good news amidst the flurry of other types of news?
How can you be a bringer of good news?
What message can we proclaim as good news to each other and to those around us?
This, dear friends, is the work of the Gospel. This is what we’re called to. I’m grateful to be partners in proclamation of good news.
Peace,
Pastor Thad
