I couldn’t be more proud of The Dreamland than I’ve been this year. Several of our benchmarks include welcoming over 80,000 people to The Dreamland

(increasing our programming by 100%), erasing our operating deficit, trans-forming the Studio Theater into the most comfortable place to watch a movie on Nantucket, and growing our Children’s Theater to provide opportunities to over 200 young actors. And on Sunday, July 22nd this year, we’ll be celebrating 10 years since The Dreamland founders created the idea of a new Dreamland for Nantucket. It's time for thanks all around! At the same time, these increased accomplishments are accompanied by increased costs. Our commitment to operate The Dream-land with fiscal responsibility means we must count on public support to contin-ue to be open 364 days a year. Thank you for your continued support.

From the Leadership

As you read through this report, you’ll notice several accomplishments this past year. We listened to our patrons and installed a new, very comfortable,

retractable seating system in the Studio Theatre. Because of the unfortunate closing of the Starlight Theatre, which acted as our necessary third screen, we adapted our beautiful Harborview Room into our third screening room, which now allows us to play several additional movies each month. As a result of the challenging weather and damage this past year, we’ve made improvements to the building itself, including installing all new exterior doors to replace the damaged ones.

Although you may notice a small profit in this report, rest assured we have rein-vested this money back into our facility so our guests continue to be comfortable and proud of the building, and so we continue to have a state-of-the-art space for all of Nantucket to enjoy. Our hard-working staff is committed to the success of The Dreamland. In just six years, we’ve become essential to our island. The Dreamland is YOUR year-round cultural center, serving YOU 364 days a year. I hope to see you at The Dreamland soon!

The Dreamland builds community on Nantucket year-round by bringing people

together to share experiences through film, art, culture, and learning.

Programming Highlights

The Dreamland is a place we look to year-round to be entertained,

educated and engaged through special events and programming that are exciting and memorable.

Our vision for The Dreamland is an evening enjoying an author presen-tation, a live music performance, a comedy show, or attending a beautiful wedding. It is about experiencing programs or special events you would normally only see in Boston or NYC or in major performing arts venues.

This past year put The Dreamland on the map as a major player in the enter-tainment and performing arts world in our region. Former Vice President Joe Biden joined us this past Novem-ber as part of our Page to Stage series, with 800 of Nantucket’s residents in attendance.

This coming year will bring a fantastic concert series including the return of the Weight Band with the King Harvest Horns in June, and Livingston Taylor in July. New artists include: Vic-tor Wainwright and the Train, David Wax Museum and John Waite.

Our Page to Stage program will host Lesley Stahl, Meredith Goldstein, Chris Matthews, Elin Hilderbrand, Dr. Jim O'Connell, along with several others.

The Dreamland Theatre season of programming and performances seeks to produce works that both educate and inspire youth and their families. Our

program respects and honors the past as we continue to offer our popular sum-mer and winter performances, camps and musicals. Our winter 2018 production of Doctor Dolittle featured two casts featuring over 60 local children, many of whom experienced their first moment on stage.

We are perhaps even more thrilled to announce our upcoming 2018-2019 Season, which both honors our traditions and marks a new era for The Dream-land and Nantucket - a full season of Family Theatre. Our new Family Theatre features adults in adult roles and children in children’s role. A wonderful example of this was our acclaimed production last October of To Kill A Mockingbird, which was studied and seen by ev-ery eighth grader on island, as well as the general public, in eight performances.

We believe it is vital for our community to see im-portant works presented on stage and to experi-ence the interaction with literature in this vibrant and authentic way.

A Night at the Movies

Over the past year, The Dreamland has sought to fill our screens with

a wide range of programming, from the latest blockbuster from Disney or Fox, to some of the smallest, yet most-highly praised films in the world.

For the past two years, Dreamland patrons have had the opportunity to attend a weekly Film for Thought se-ries on Wednesdays, featuring some of the important films I alluded to above, as well as some of the greatest classics ever produced. This past summer, documentary fans and jazz enthusi-asts were treated to the compelling documentary I Called Him Morgan, a fascinating biopic about the murder of jazz great Lee Morgan. Film for Thought also partnered with Nantuck-et Safe Harbor for Animals and played the Turkish film Kedi, detailing the lives of hundreds of thousands of cats

roaming and living on the streets of Istanbul, Turkey.

In 2018, The Dreamland hopes to expand its film programming by estab-lishing several ongoing series celebrat-ing the best in genre and topical film making, including a monthly "Fright Night".

And with the addition of a third screen in the Harborview Room, The Dreamland is poised now more than ever to make these additions a reality, but of course we can't do it without your continued financial support and patronage.
