Term 2 Week 4 Dear Parents and Carers, Return to School Each morning this week, there has been a sense of positivity as students have returned to school for their designated day of learning. The excitement was obvious from students as they reconnected with friends on arrival but also excitement as teachers reconnected face-to-face with their students. The smiles, conversations and delight felt by both students and teachers was truly heart-warming. Event Title MONDAY 25 TH MAY 2020 STUDENTS RETURN TO SCHOOL FULL TIME Event Title TERM 2 / WEEK 4

Returning to the classroom full-time – Monday 25 May The NSW Premier, Mrs Gladys Berejiklian has announced this week that schools will be returning to fulltime face-to-face teaching as of Week 5, starting Monday 25 May. Important information was communicated to families via email, the Copacabana Public School Facebook page and the school’s website yesterday. Whilst all current health advice confirms that our schools are safe for students, the NSW Premier and the NSW Minister for Education indicated continuation of some restrictions relating to school operation. All school activities and operations will be in line with Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), NSW Health guidelines and the advice received from the NSW Department of Education. The main points are:

Schools have been deemed safe to open for full-time attendance

The” single unit of remote learning” will no longer continue and teachers will return to supporting learners in a face-

to-face classroom environment

Students do not need to follow physical distance guidelines but will need to follow good hygiene practices

All students should be at school unless - they have a medical certificate

- they are currently unwell

You will receive your child’s Semester 1 report (Term 3 Wk, 2)

There will be no inter-school visits or excursions

Students will continue to bring drink bottles as the bubblers are closed.

Additional cleaning services will continue throughout this term

There will be no visitors on school grounds unless essential. School drop off and pick ups will continue to occur

at the school gates, with staff present to assist any students who may be feeling anxious. Parents must continue to

abide by the state-mandated guidelines related to social distancing.

Please be aware that schools will continue to be particularly vigilant when managing cold and flu-like symptoms. Parents/ carers will be contacted to pick up their child if they are unwell. If your child is not feeling well before school please keep them at home and contact the school where they can be marked as sick on the roll. Responding to COVID-19 Cases There is a clear plan in place for schools to respond to any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our schools. We are working closely with NSW Health and will communicate with parents if the situation arises. Thank you Thank you for the wonderful support you have given to our children in recent weeks and for your strong commitment to our school. Thank you to our amazing staff for ensuring our student’s education and wellbeing has remained a strong focus over the past six school weeks. It was an enormous effort by our teachers to move from traditional classroom teaching and learning to remote learning from home in such short a space of time. Yours in Education, Mary Hunt Principal “Gratitude turns what we have into enough” - Aesop

TERM 2 / WEEK 4

Avoca Before and After school care Parents may be aware that we have been continuously operating whilst Covid-19 has impacted on us all . We are operating on limited numbers at the moment to support front line workers and parents that require care in these strange times. If your children are returning please let us know by email or give us a phone call. This will ensure we are able to adhere to our staff to children ratio and are operating under the guideline as set out by our governing body ACECQA. I have a duty of care to my staff to ensure we can stay safe and support the local community. At the end of each session the centre is cleaned, tables, chairs , toys , door handles, benches and railings, bins . All cups and plates are washed and rinsed in hot water. The children use their own drink bottles to ensure each child remains healthy, signing in and out, only one person at a time in the sign in are. Hand sanitiser is on the sign in desk and is to be used on arrival and departure. At the same time, I certainly would like to say thanks to all the parents for their kind contributions to our Centre, for your caring words and lovely gestures whilst we are in these strange times. We all really appreciate it! Vacation care Our vacation care was a great success, and even though we had in-house activities and we had less children attending than normal, the children appeared to really enjoy their time with us. I noticed that the social isolation for children really had a huge impact on them, they were very happy to just be with each other. This made the time with them really enjoyable. First time children in the service have given great feedback in regard to the activities. We did have one day where we walked down to Little beach from the National Park carpark. The children enjoyed the sunshine, being outside, looking for shells and running around. If you would like to have input into the next vacation care please email us with your requests and I will endeavour to bring these ideas into the program. New staff members. Even in these strange times I have managed to employ a young man who has started his bachelor of Education. Lachlan Shaw has an impressive resume and came with wonderful references. School captain at St Edwards College, a keen cross-country runner and surfer and soccer player, the children have taken to him and enjoy playing on the oval each afternoon, It makes me happy to see respectful young men being role models to the younger children. Good News Our Service now stocks school hats! If you do need a hat and the uniform shop is closed, we have some for sale. We also have envelopes and a stock-list of products you can order with us. I will ensure they are sent up and we will collect the items for you. Please tick what you need and place the money in the envelope and we will do the rest. Lost property Please mark your children’s property clearly. This will make it easy to locate the children if we find articles of clothing laying around. Any property we find will be sent up to the school’s lost property if it is not marked with a name. Julee Dean
