Week 9 Term 3, 10th September 2014 Dear Parents, Sue Mackay Principal Week 4 Term 2, 17th May 2017 Dear Parents, For the first three days of next week five staff members will be participating in Connecting to Country training. This is an Aboriginal community cultural awareness teaching programme providing a much needed cultural conduit between teaching and learning and Aboriginal peoples and communities. Teachers are offered a unique opportunity to engage directly with Aboriginal Australians at the local community level. Over the course of three days, participating teachers will learn about local Aboriginal culture, history and social experience. By the end of the programme it is anticipated that participants will have significantly bettered the depth of their insight into the myriad of social, cultural, historic, economic and political issues that continue to affect and concern Aboriginal peoples and communities. They will attain a culturally informed awareness of the cultural geography of their local school area and more broadly their school’s region, and encounter firsthand the concept and meaning of ‘country’ from an Aboriginal cultural standpoint. This is a unique opportunity for schools to learn about local area Aboriginal culture and education so that we are more equipped to deliver the content of the History and Geography programs. Classroom teachers attending the program will be sharing the knowledge with staff over the next months. The following classes will have a casual teacher for the 22nd May, 23rd May and 24th May – KS, 2LB, 3JB and 6JC. This training has been long awaited and we are very excited to be attending. Hoping it’s a great week for you and your family, Sue Mackay

Deputy’s Report

Hello Everyone,

What amazing weather we are having this week. I have

had the pleasure of teaching and visiting a number of

classes this week who are very busy engaging in

learning and socialising with their friends. I am very

impressed with the students‘ enthusiasm and work

ethics. Students are always very eager to show me what

they can do and the teachers are very proud of their

classrooms and their students’ engagement in

classroom learning. Our lunch times are very busy too!

Many of our students are learning dance routines and

choir songs for various upcoming competitions. These

students are led by our talented class teachers who

enjoy coaching and providing opportunities for our

students to reach their potential in their selected

interests and activities.

On the weekend our students’ art and craft work was

on display at the Coffs Harbour Show. We received a

participation ribbon for our wonderful display. We also

entered the Primary School Fruit and Vegetable

competition for the first time and we won first prize!

We received a blue ribbon and $6 to spend on more

seeds for our garden. Well done to Mrs Bourke and our

Garden Gurus! They also spend many of their

lunchtimes busily attending the school garden patch.

Next Tuesday many of our Indigenous students are

attending a free tennis day organised by the Evonne

Goolagong Foundation. The day includes a talk by

Evonne Goolagong-Cawley and lots of fun tennis

activities. Our soccer and netball teams are playing in

the first round in of the PSSA Knock outs this week.

Our boys and girls soccer teams are playing Karangi

Public School and the girl’s netball team is playing

Tyalla. We wish them luck and we are sure they will do

their best, display great sportsmanship and meet new

friends.

DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY

On Friday 5th May, 76 students

travelled to Woolgoolga to compete in the District

Cross Country. As usual our ‘Kororo Kids” gave it their

all and should be extremely proud of their efforts.

Their exemplary behaviour made them great

ambassadors for Kororo Public School.

It was wonderful to see so many parents there, not only

support their own child, but cheering loudly for others

running in the Kororo singlet.

Lilly G, Charli M, Joey K and Breah F won their events

and were presented with the Age District Champions’

trophies at the Presentation Ceremony. Kororo also
