Week 9 Term 3, 10th September 2014 Dear Parents, Sue Mackay Principal Week 6 Term 1, 2nd March 2016 Dear Parents, Safety around schools is always problemac, however we are all very aware that Kororo Public School has its very own set of traffic difficules. The school works closely with our Assets Department and the local Council to quickly address issues as they arise and to try to pre-empt problems so as to avoid any form of accident. Whilst we recognise parking is at a premium, we have locked the back access road gate as vehicles in this area have proven to be dangerous for lile pedestrians using the road to access James Small Drive. With the gate locked, bikes and prams are now unable to enter the school from this direcon. We have removed a panel of fencing for temporary access and the Council will be cung an access path into the area in the next few weeks. The gap in the fence in the far northern corner backing onto James Small Drive will be officially blocked off in the next few days as the incline to the new footpath is far too dangerous for safe pedestrian access. Please encourage your children to follow safe pedestrian pracces around the school and set the very best of examples for your children to model. I have outlined below a few of the key safety issues that are witnessed around the school every week. Children need to be in appropriate child car seats that are fied and used correctly. Respect the 40km/h speed limit in a school zone as children are usually about when you are. Always park and turn legally around schools and avoid dangerous manoeuvres like U-turns and three-point turns. Giving way to pedestrians, especially when entering and leaving driveways. Drop the kids off and pick them up on the school side of the road in our designated drop-off and pick-up areas. Do not call out to students from across the road. Children are very likely to run in your direcon without first checking the traffic. Use the pedestrian crossings around the school parcularly in James Small Drive. The school has submied an applicaon for an upgrade in infrastructure to improve student safety around the school. We are hoping that our applicaon will result in an upgrade to the James Small Drive pedestrian access to include speed inhibitors around the crossing. Fingers crossed! Hope you week is a great one! Quote for the Week:

Week 6 Term 1, 2nd March 2016

Dear Parents, Safety around schools is always problematic, however we are all very aware that Kororo Public School has its very own set of traffic difficulties. The school works closely with our Assets Department and the local Council to quickly address issues as they arise and to try to pre-empt problems so as to avoid any form of accident.

Whilst we recognise parking is at a premium, we have locked the back access road gate as vehicles in this area have proven to be dangerous for little pedestrians using the road to access James Small Drive. With the gate locked, bikes and prams are now unable to enter the school from this direction. We have removed a panel of fencing for temporary access and the Council will be cutting an access path into the area in the next few weeks.

The gap in the fence in the far northern corner backing onto James Small Drive will be officially blocked off in the next few days as the incline to the new footpath is far too dangerous for safe pedestrian access. Please encourage your children to follow safe pedestrian practices around the school and set the very best of examples for your children to model.

I have outlined below a few of the key safety issues that are witnessed around the school every week.

Children need to be in appropriate child car seats that are fitted and used correctly.

Children are very likely to run in your direction without first checking the traffic.

Use the pedestrian crossings around the school particularly in James Small Drive.

The school has submitted an application for an upgrade in infrastructure to improve student safety around the school. We are hoping that our application will result in an upgrade to the James Small Drive pedestrian access to include speed inhibitors around the crossing. Fingers crossed!

Hope you week is a great one! Sue Mackay

LIBRARY NEWS

We are looking forward to lots of learning and enjoyment of books

and reading during our lessons in the Library this year. Students in

Years 2 to 6 have been learning about Cyber Safety for the first

few weeks of this Term. Kindergarten students are getting used

to library routines and borrowing procedures and students in Year 1

are finding out about the non fiction section of the library.

All students have the opportunity to borrow each week from our

library. Books should be transported to and from school in a

library bag to protect the books from wear and tear. We have a

small number of library bags available for purchase from the library

at a cost of $3.50. Plastic bags are also suitable for use in place

of a library bag. Books should be returned each week. Please be

aware that children who do not return books by the due date are

unable to borrow while their loans are outstanding.

Students are responsible for the care of library books that they

borrow. Whilst it happens infrequently, sometimes books do get

lost or damaged. Unfortunately our budget does not allow for the

replacement of books lost or damaged by our library users. The

cost of this replacement is borne by parents/carers.

Below are borrowing days for all classes.

Monday: 1/2LB, 2CB, 2LM, 2VW, 5AM, 5LF

Tuesday: KC, KG, KR, KS, 6KN

Wednesday: 1NL, 1SG, 6JC

Thursday: K/1M, 1LB, 1RC, 6LS

Friday: 3JB, 3MW, 3/4TW, 4CA, 4GH, 4/5DH, 5DD

We have lots of new books in our library that need covering with

contact. Your help with this task would be much appreciated. We

can send the books and contact home with your child, or you can

pick them up from the library. If you are able to assist, please let

me know.
