TDC OFFERS MARKETING SUPPORT TO PRODUCERS The Trade for Development Centre (TDC) is a Belgian Development Agency (BTC) programme. TDC aims at promoting fair trade and sustainable trade as well as Aid for Trade. Part of TDC’s mission is to provide marketing support to producers. TDC coaches producers to obtain sustainable revenues from their production and improve their market access (be it locally, regionally or internationally). This is done through strengthening the organisational capacities in marketing, communication & sales. WHAT TYPE OF SUPPORT? The marketing support is fully customised and tailored to the level and the needs of the benefiting organisation. It consists of 2 phases: A first training session - facilitating the submission of the application for the main marketing coaching - supports producer organisations to capture and analyse mar- keting data & figures of their organisation and compare those to the competitors’. This will lead producers towards new in- sights on how to position themselves and their product on the market. The main marketing coaching programme consists in understanding strategic mar- keting, promotion and sales management. It will train the producer organisation to formulate a strategy, a marketing plan and a budget. This will enable it to improve its product; set the right price for it; find potential customers and learn to commu- nicate to them about his product. After completing the coaching, the producer or- ganisation should be armed better to face the market and to sell more product for a better price. The coaching is participatory, meaning the benefiting producer organisation is the driver behind the programme and the owner of its content and strategic choices. It is given by a consultant specialised in strategic marketing who is sent to the organisation’s premises. © BTC / Dieter Telemans A5_TDC_Support_Prod_EN.indd 1 8/02/16 09:21

We have already had much training on the production of coffee, but this is the first time that we receive training about the market. It is very welcome, because today we are confident we can produce good quality coffee, but we are afraid of increasing the production volume as we do not know who will buy this coffee.

”WomenCraft is grateful for the TDC support that has enabled us to make substantial

and visible progress. We are participating in regional fairs and international trade shows and have gotten good feedback and promising orders. We have introduced

new product lines that customers appreciate and that are starting to sell. We have professionalised our image through the creation of good marketing materials and we

have made improvements in our domestic and regional presence.
