Programme

N.B The organisers reserve the right to make minor changes to the programme

Lecturers include representatives from the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket Equine Hospital, Rossdale & Partners, Royal Veterinary College and other leading industry experts.

A comprehensive handbook, refreshments and lunches, the welcome dinner on the first evening and external visits on each day are included. The course fee does not include

accommodation but we can assist in finding suitable accommodation.

Certificates of attendance are awarded for course completion.

Day 1

• Mare’s reproductive cycle, barren mare management, pregnancy diagnosis

• HBLB Code of Practice, stud hygiene and practical management

• Non-infection and infectious causes of abortion

• Practical paddock management and parasite control

Day 2

• Topical issues in equine infectious disease

• Diagnosis and treatment of upper respiratory tract disorders

• Equine dentistry

• Nutrition requirements of the mare and foal

• Sales preparation and commercial stallion management

• Understanding genetics and pedigrees in the thoroughbred horse

Day 3

• Foaling – the normal and abnormal

• Common conditions of the newborn foal

• Immunity and infectious diseases of the foal

• Management of congential and acquired growth defects in foals

• Surgical and non-surgical approaches to limb correction

• Farrier treatment of deformities in foals
